- In recent years, many households in Chien Thang commune have taken advantage of the abundant food resources to develop white horse breeding. This model has opened up a new direction in the commune's economic development, contributing to helping people increase their income and improve their lives.

The family of Mr. Duong Van Dung, in Na Tinh village, is one of the households that has effectively developed the white horse breeding model in the commune. Mr. Dung shared: "Previously, my family's economic situation was very difficult. In 2021, with the guidance and promotion from the commune government, my family bought two white horses for breeding. Thanks to proper care, the horses have grown and increased in number every year. Currently, my family has four white horses. From 2021 to the present, my family has sold seven breeding horses to the market. Besides horse breeding, I also buy horses to make horse bone extract, averaging 4-5 kg of horse bone extract sold each year. The total income from horse breeding and making horse bone extract brings my family nearly 80 million VND per year."
Not only Mr. Dung's family, but many households in the commune have also boldly invested in developing a commercial model of raising white horses. Besides utilizing the abundant natural grass resources in the area, households also proactively plant elephant grass to ensure a year-round food supply for their horses. As a result, the total horse population in the commune is growing, gradually increasing income for many households. According to statistics from the Commune People's Committee, the entire commune currently has 520 white horses, raised by households in all 24 villages, with the highest concentration in Na Tinh village, where some households raise 4-5 horses, while others raise 1-2.
Mr. Ly Minh Hai, Deputy Head of the Economic Department of Chien Thang Commune, said: "In the last 5 years, people in the commune have developed a model of raising white horses. This is a suitable economic development direction, contributing to creating livelihoods and increasing income for the people. To support people in developing livestock farming, in recent years, the commune has intensified propaganda and mobilization efforts to encourage people to change the livestock structure to suit the local conditions. At the same time, the department has coordinated the organization of 3-4 technical training courses and vocational training to guide people in applying scientific and technical methods and proactively preventing diseases in the horse herd."
In addition, the commune facilitates access to preferential capital sources for people to develop production, including horse breeding. To date, the outstanding loan balance of the commune at the Chi Lang branch of the Vietnam Bank for Social Policies has reached 65.5 billion VND, with 860 borrowing households. Notably, from the capital of national target programs, the commune has supported households in implementing the white horse breeding model. Specifically, from 2025 to the present, the commune has supported 355 white horses for 191 poor households, near-poor households, and ethnic minority households with a total amount of over 18.2 billion VND. This has contributed to creating livelihoods, helping people develop their economy, increase their income, and gradually rise out of poverty sustainably.
Ms. Phan Thi Thanh, Director of Van An Agricultural and Forestry Production and Service Cooperative in Trung Tam village, said: From 2025 to the present, the cooperative has received support from the commune in providing 88 breeding white horses to its members who are poor households, near-poor households, and ethnic minority households. To date, the herd has produced 12 foals. Although they are not yet ready for sale, this is an important resource that helps the cooperative and its members expand production and gradually build a model of white horse breeding towards commercialization. The support from the commune government not only reduces the difficulties of initial investment capital but also creates motivation for members to confidently develop production and aim to increase their income in the future.
It is evident that, by effectively utilizing natural advantages and with the support and attention of the commune, the white horse breeding model is gradually becoming an effective economic development direction for the commune. Not only does it help many households increase their income and improve their living standards, but it also contributes to job creation, promotes rural economic development, and opens up a sustainable path in poverty reduction efforts in the locality. By the end of 2025, the commune's poverty rate will be 6.15%; and the average per capita income will reach 35.57 million VND/person/year.
