People's living standards have improved.

Visiting several hamlets in U Minh Thuong commune, we could clearly feel the changes. The inter-hamlet roads have been concreted and asphalted, making travel more convenient for the people. The lush vegetable gardens, verdant rice fields, and especially the new, spacious houses have brought new life to the countryside. This is vivid evidence of the improved income and living standards of the people.

U Minh Thuong commune has 26 hamlets, with a total of 11,395 households and 46,344 inhabitants, of which 1,323 households are ethnic minorities, accounting for 11.6%. Ethnic policies and national target programs have been effectively implemented, focusing on resources from national target programs for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas. Many projects have been implemented in accordance with actual conditions, meeting the needs and aspirations of the people. “Thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, the rural landscape has improved, with smooth concrete roads facilitating travel and trade. Our children have been given the opportunity to receive a proper education, and traditional cultural values are preserved and promoted,” said Mr. Ly Van Tinh, a resident of Kinh Nam hamlet.

U Minh Thuong commune also focuses on propaganda and mobilization through various forms suitable to each locality, thereby raising awareness and responsibility of each collective, individual and community to create social consensus, promote the role of the people in participating in the implementation of socio-economic development goals and tasks, and gradually eradicate poverty sustainably for ethnic minority areas. Ms. Duong Thuy Hang - Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of U Minh Thuong commune said: "Resources from ethnic policies implemented in the commune are an important lever to promote socio-economic development and improve the material and spiritual lives of ethnic minority people."

The role of influential people is being promoted.

Currently, U Minh Thuong commune has 25 influential figures among ethnic minority communities. Recognizing these influential figures as important bridges, the Party committee and government at all levels consistently promote and encourage ethnic minority communities to effectively implement the Party's guidelines and policies, and the State's laws. The commune creates all conditions to promote the role and positive contributions of these influential figures within the ethnic minority communities.

In fulfilling their role, respected community leaders not only set a good example in their daily lives but also serve as a source of moral support for the people; when facing difficulties, people turn to them for advice, listening, and guidance. Through their voices, the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws are conveyed in an easily understandable way, in accordance with the customs and traditions of each community. "If you want people to follow you, you have to be a role model. In recent years, my family has focused on economic development, and people in the hamlet have learned from and followed my example. I also provide capital support to households facing difficulties so they can develop their economy and escape poverty," shared Mr. Danh Ut, a respected community leader in U Minh Thuong commune.

Trusted and chosen by the people as a reputable figure, Mr. Le Van Thong has, over the past period, helped the Party Committee and the local government understand the thoughts and aspirations of the people and promptly resolve their difficulties and obstacles, contributing to raising awareness and responsibility of each citizen towards the community and society, and developing family economies. The lives of the people in the area have improved, and they have the means to contribute their efforts and resources to the construction of new rural areas in the locality.

In 2025, the total capital allocated to the national target program for socio-economic development in ethnic minority areas exceeded 6.3 billion VND. U Minh Thuong commune has distributed this capital to projects addressing land shortages, housing, production land, clean water, rural transportation infrastructure, agricultural and forestry development, education , and healthcare.
