Mid-Autumn Festival programs for disadvantaged and vulnerable children contribute to giving them more motivation and confidence, gradually narrowing the gap between lowland and highland areas.

"Lanterns that light up dreams"

In the days leading up to the Mid-Autumn Festival, while the streets are filled with the sounds of lion dances and drums, vehicles travel across mountains and passes carrying Mid-Autumn gifts to children in disadvantaged areas.

Two days before Typhoon No. 10 hit the central provinces, the "Lanterns Lighting Up Dreams" initiative, organized by the Da Nang Youth Union in coordination with the City's Charity and Child Protection Association, managed to reach the children in the mountainous commune of Phuoc Chanh.

At Phuoc Cong 1 Primary School – where 100% of the students are from the Gie Trieng ethnic minority – the sound of the lion dance drums was met with shouts of "oh," "ah," and resounding applause from the students. Following the graceful movements of the lion, Ho Van Lanh (a first-grade student at Phuoc Cong 1 Primary School) cheered excitedly, his eyes sparkling with joy: "This is the first time I've seen a lion dance and touched a lion; it feels so fun and exciting."

Following the lion dance performance, nearly 500 children received Mid-Autumn Festival gifts including candies, cakes, and lanterns, making their joy even more complete. The organizers also awarded 50 scholarships, each worth 500,000 VND, to underprivileged students who excelled academically, as encouragement for them to continue striving for success.

Ms. Le Ngoc Nhien Ha, Permanent Vice President of the City's Youth Council, said that the "Lanterns Lighting Up Dreams" program is an annual activity every Mid-Autumn Festival aimed at bringing a warm, joyful, and loving Mid-Autumn Festival to underprivileged children. Through this, it encourages and motivates them to continue striving for success in their studies and lives.

The full moon season

Continuing with that spirit, the Huong Sen Volunteer Club (under the Vietnam Youth Union of the city) and the Red Cross of the city organized the "Loving Moon" journey at the Tak Po mountain school (Nam Tra My commune).

According to Dao Kim Long, head of the Huong Sen Volunteer Club, the trip faced many difficulties due to the impact of typhoon number 10. However, with a spirit of solidarity, community responsibility, and a desire to share love, each member doubled their efforts with the determination to bring a Mid-Autumn Festival filled with love to children in mountainous areas.

"We organized a Mid-Autumn Festival celebration for the children, complete with the characters of Cuoi and Hang, lion dances, feasts, and gifts, just like children in the city, so that they could fully experience the joy of the moon festival and gradually bridge the gap between different regions," Long shared.

At the Da Nang Red Cross Center for the Elderly and Disabled – which cares for dozens of orphaned and disabled children – this year's Mid-Autumn Festival is particularly special because the children are celebrating it in the warm embrace and sharing of the entire community. During the "Mid-Autumn Festival Night 2025," the children watched lion dances, enjoyed festive treats, carried lanterns, and received meaningful gifts from generous donors.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Le Tuyet, Acting Director of the Da Nang Red Cross Center for the Elderly and Disabled, said that this year's Mid-Autumn Festival saw dozens of visits from organizations, individuals, and philanthropists who came to visit, give gifts, and organize Mid-Autumn celebrations for the children. This demonstrates the social responsibility of the entire community, ensuring that vulnerable children are not left behind.

The Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner. Vehicles carrying the loving glow of the moon continue their journey to reach underprivileged children, children in remote areas, border regions, and islands.

More than just sharing mooncakes and candies, the Mid-Autumn Festival is a bridge connecting hearts, an opportunity for the community to join hands and share love with all children in society.
