Mr. Nguyen Hong Minh's family is one of the large-scale pig farming households in Tuan Son commune. Given the prolonged hot weather, his family has proactively implemented many measures to protect their pig herd. Mr. Minh said: "Currently, my family raises 20 sows and over 100 fattening pigs. Pigs are not very tolerant of heat, so when the temperature rises, they easily get sick, affecting farming efficiency. Therefore, my family regularly supplements the pigs with electrolytes, operates the cooling system, and bathes the pigs twice a day, in the morning and afternoon. When the outdoor temperature reaches 37 degrees Celsius, I use a misting machine to lower the temperature in the pig pens."
Not only livestock and poultry farmers, but also many cooperatives and aquaculture households in the province are proactively implementing measures to protect their ponds from the heat.
Mr. Ly Viet Cuong, Director of Cuong Hung Ecological Agricultural Cooperative in Trang Dinh commune, said: "The cooperative currently has 7 members and maintains 12 cages for raising catfish. In the current hot weather, we cover the cages with black nets to limit solar radiation and maintain a stable temperature for the fish's growth and development. In addition, the cooperative regularly supplements the feed with vitamins to increase the fish's resistance; and periodically treats the water environment to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks."
Currently, the province has nearly 76,000 buffaloes and cows, over 185,000 pigs, 5.1 million poultry, and nearly 600 fish cages. Facing the risk of hot weather affecting the growth and development of livestock and aquatic animals, the authorities of communes and wards, as well as specialized agencies of the province, have intensified the implementation of measures to support people in preventing and controlling diseases and protecting production.
Mr. Trieu Van Phuong, Director of the Yen Phuc Commune Public Service Center, said: "The commune has more than 1,000 buffaloes and cows, over 4,000 pigs, and more than 68,000 poultry. Given the prolonged heatwave, at the beginning of June 2026, the center dispatched specialized staff to regularly monitor the situation, advising people to reinforce and shelter their livestock sheds, ensuring coolness and ventilation, and providing clean drinking water and appropriate feed for their animals. In particular, they advised livestock farmers to limit grazing in the fields during the intense heat; to strengthen hygiene, disinfection of sheds, and to monitor the health of their livestock to detect and promptly address any abnormalities... Thanks to these efforts, the livestock population in the commune has remained stable."
Mr. Tran Van Ngan, Deputy Director of the center, said: "Given the prolonged hot weather, the unit has issued a document to the People's Committees of communes and wards to strengthen propaganda and guidance for people to implement measures to prevent and combat the effects of heat on livestock and aquatic animals. Particular attention is paid to guiding people on supplementing nutrients, treating the breeding environment, and preventing diseases."
Given the prolonged hot weather, proactively implementing measures to protect livestock and aquatic animals from the heat is crucial in minimizing losses for farmers and contributing to improved production efficiency.
