For many years, the Ong Bau and Chin Xieng canals in An Nhon ward, Ho Chi Minh City, have suffered from pollution, sedimentation, and flooding, affecting the living environment and daily lives of the local people. Based on the local community's requests and needs, the city has approved a project to renovate these two canals with a total investment of nearly 3,000 billion VND, aiming to improve the environment, beautify the urban area, and enhance the quality of life for residents.
The project includes dredging, waterway improvement, construction of transportation and drainage systems, and green parks. However, for the project to be implemented on schedule, land clearance is considered the biggest challenge, as 458 households are affected, with more than one-third requiring complete relocation. Drawing on the experience of implementing the Xuyen Tam canal project, the local authorities are proactively reviewing the planning, preparing legal procedures, and coordinating with relevant units to gain the consensus of the people from the outset. This demonstrates the increasingly proactive role of local authorities in preparing the conditions for implementing infrastructure projects, contributing to removing bottlenecks in public investment.
