This year is also closely linked to the goal of increasing forest cover to over 46% and improving forest quality, restoring forests after natural disasters, and promoting sustainable forestry development in the new phase.

The atmosphere is buzzing with excitement for the 2026 Tree Planting Festival.
For over six decades, the Tree Planting Festival has become a beautiful cultural tradition at the beginning of spring for the nation, and a widespread movement for the environment and the future. For Quang Ninh, a locality with a large forest area, diverse ecosystems, and many heritage sites, the Tree Planting Festival holds even more special significance, reflecting a vision for harmonious development between economic growth and environmental protection.
On February 23rd (the 7th day of the first lunar month), Quang Ninh province held a provincial-level launching ceremony for the "Tree Planting Festival in Eternal Gratitude to Uncle Ho" for the Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026. The ceremony took place in Lot 9, Section 1, Sub-area 41a (Yen Tu Ward), within the ecological landscape restoration zone of Yen Tu National Forest, managed by the Ha Long Bay - Yen Tu World Heritage Management Board. The selection of this location clearly demonstrates the message of linking tree planting and reforestation with the conservation of natural and cultural heritage and sustainable tourism development. As part of the launching ceremony, provincial leaders and delegates participated in planting 1,268 trees (including teak, rosewood, and agarwood) on an area of 1.5 hectares.
Beyond being just a mass movement, the Spring Tree Planting Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026 in the province particularly emphasizes the need to care for and protect trees after planting. Localities and units are assigned specific responsibilities in providing technical guidance, monitoring growth, and ensuring a high survival rate of trees, thereby forming forests that are truly valuable in terms of ecology, economy, and society.

Along with the provincial-level launching ceremony, the Tree Planting Festival will be held simultaneously throughout the province in the first quarter of 2026. Communes, wards, special zones, and agencies/units will select suitable locations and tree species based on their actual conditions, ensuring practicality and effectiveness, avoiding formality, and linking it to the socio-economic development targets and tasks of the locality.
On the morning of February 20th (the 4th day of the Lunar New Year), Cua Ong Coal Mining Company - TKV organized the "Tree Planting Festival in Eternal Gratitude to Uncle Ho" for the Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026. Company officials and employees planted 260 casuarina trees in the drying plant yard and along the internal road from the beginning of warehouse 26 to the drying plant, creating a vibrant atmosphere of emulation in the early days of the new spring. According to the 2026 plan, the company aims to plant more than 5,300 trees, including casuarina, acacia, and cypress, contributing to greening the production area and surrounding regions.
In Co To, the tree planting ceremony for the Spring of the Year of the Horse 2026 was held along the Da Lat route in Hai Tien village. Following the ceremony, officials and residents participated in planting approximately 4,200 trees, including 3,500 casuarina trees, 200 Terminalia catappa trees, and 500 bougainvillea trees. These are all tree species suitable for the climate and soil conditions of the island region, contributing to windbreaks, sand retention, and landscape enhancement.

The Spring Tree Planting Festival of the Year of the Horse 2026 in Vinh Thuc island commune was organized practically, linked to the goal of strengthening the green belt to protect the ecological environment of the island's coastal areas. Local authorities, along with officials, soldiers, and people on the island, launched a campaign to plant 1,500 casuarina trees and 1,000 myrtle trees in coastal areas and sand dunes. According to the plan for 2026, the commune aims to plant approximately 5,000 trees of various types. These tree species are suitable for the island's unique soil and climate conditions, capable of acting as windbreaks, retaining sand, preventing erosion, and creating a green landscape; contributing to improving the ecological environment and raising community awareness in protecting forests and preserving the sustainable greenery in this frontier region of the Fatherland.
From the beginning of the year until February 23, 2026, the entire province planted 169,880 trees, equivalent to 163.83 hectares. Of this, 31,775 trees were planted in concentrated areas (equivalent to 25.73 hectares), and 138,105 trees were planted in scattered areas (equivalent to 138.11 hectares). These results demonstrate the synchronized and decisive involvement of all levels and sectors, as well as the positive response of the people in implementing the tree planting and reforestation movement at the beginning of spring, creating a vibrant atmosphere of competition right from the start of the new year.
Improve forest cover and forest quality.
Sustainable forestry development, environmental protection, and climate change adaptation have always been identified as key and ongoing tasks in Quang Ninh province . Following Typhoon Yagi (Typhoon No. 3) in 2024, nearly 129,000 hectares of forest in the province were damaged, with over 21,000 hectares severely affected; the forest cover rate decreased from 55% to 38%. In response to this, the province has focused on decisively implementing solutions to restore forestry production and quickly reforest the affected areas.
To date, forest planters in the province have completed replanting production forests and basically finished replanting protection forests with high-quality, economically valuable tree species that are resistant to strong winds and storms. By 2025, the entire province will plant nearly 35,800 hectares of concentrated forest, almost three times the average of previous years - a result demonstrating the synchronized involvement and high determination of the entire political system and the people.

Entering 2026, among the 24 targets of Resolution No. 05-NQ/TU, the goal of increasing forest cover to over 46% has been identified as a key task. The province has set a plan to plant over 12,000 hectares of new production forests; at the same time, it strives to achieve the highest possible results for protection forests, special-use forests, watershed forests, mangrove forests, and border belt forests. From the beginning of the year, localities have implemented a series of solutions for planting, caring for, protecting, and developing forests, determined to achieve the set goal.
Along with restoring the planted area, the province is gradually restructuring the tree species towards increasing the proportion of large timber trees, native trees, multi-purpose trees, and trees with high economic value. Replacing fast-growing, short-cycle trees with large timber trees is identified as a strategic step, not only to increase forest cover but also to improve forest quality, increase economic value per unit area, and ensure long-term and sustainable development.

In particular, the province has issued Decision No. 3881/QD-UBND adding seven species of perennial woody plants, including longan, lychee, jackfruit, mango, pomelo, guava, and custard apple, to the list of forest trees for production in the province. These are trees with wide canopies, long lifespans, and the ability to grow on forest land, meeting the criteria for forest trees for production as stipulated by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment. This addition provides more options for people on forest land and aligns with the sustainable forestry development orientation as outlined in Resolution No. 19-NQ/TU of the Provincial Party Committee.
Through the Tet Tree Planting campaign, awareness of forest and environmental protection continues to spread widely in the community. The green shoots planted today not only contribute to restoring the greenery of the mining region, but also lay the foundation for the sustainable development of Quang Ninh in the future.
