At the Provincial Media Center, there are many reporters and journalists who are second or third generation members of families with a tradition in journalism. These include journalist Nguyen Thi Thu (pen name Minh Thu), Deputy Head of the News Department, daughter of journalist Nguyen Chi Thiet, former Editor-in-Chief of Quang Ninh Newspaper; journalist Pham Thu Trang, reporter in the Special Topics Department, daughter of journalist Nguyen Kim Hai, former Head of the Reader Relations and Documentation Department; journalist Do Khanh Giang, reporter in the Reader Relations and Documentation Department, son of journalist and photographer Do Kha, former Head of the Political and Social Affairs Department (Quang Ninh Newspaper); journalist Do Phuong, reporter in the News Department, son of journalist Do Khanh, former reporter in the Economic Department (Quang Ninh Newspaper); journalist Thanh Hoa, Deputy Head of the Radio Department, daughter of journalist Nguyen Chau, former Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Ha Long Newspaper; journalist Tran Tuan Hung, in the Arts, Sports and Entertainment Department, son of artist Van Sang from the mining region, former broadcaster at Quang Ninh Radio and Television Station. Journalist Van Anh, a reporter from the Special Topics Department, daughter of journalist Dam Minh Tuan, Editorial Department of Quang Ninh Newspaper - Ha Long Newspaper, and Ms. Dinh Thi Thu Ha, former staff member of the Organization - Administration - Management Department…
Like a continuous flow, from one generation to the next, the love for journalism is passed down and nurtured. The young generation of journalists at the Provincial Media Center always strives to fulfill their professional role and mission well, contributing to the continued spread of the prestige and brand of Quang Ninh journalism throughout society, earning recognition and high praise from the entire political system and the people.
Sharing with us, journalist Minh Thu said: Besides guiding, teaching, and giving feedback on my works in the early days of my career, my father always taught me that each journalistic work is a product of creative labor, and that journalists must have independent thinking. To create journalistic works that truly reflect life and have a fighting spirit, my father always advised me to uphold professional ethics, constantly learn, explore, and immerse myself in reality. "Testing by fire" is what forges a journalist's strong character; using practical experience to hone knowledge, skills, and courage helps young reporters like us mature quickly in all aspects.
From her early days as a novice in the profession, through various positions, journalist Minh Thu currently serves as Deputy Head of the News Department at the Provincial Media Center. She is responsible for overall propaganda work, carrying out the duties of print journalists and the Party Building - Internal Affairs team (print and television) within the department; and developing, providing input on, and directing the implementation of high-quality special features, thematic articles, and journalistic works by the department's reporters. Throughout her work in propaganda, journalist Minh Thu has consistently sought out and innovated various forms of communication to enhance the effectiveness and quality of her work. Together with the News Department team, she has collaborated with other specialized departments to provide timely, accurate, vivid, engaging, and comprehensive information and propaganda on prominent economic , political, and social events in the province and the country.
Journalist Cao Minh Duc, a reporter from the News Department, shared: "Journalist Minh Thu participates in both management and directly produces journalistic works according to the agency's and department's propaganda plan. The workload is heavy and the pressure is great, but she always maintains a high spirit and responsibility in performing her duties, being decisive, daring to think, daring to act, and daring to take responsibility in leading and managing the area under her charge. In her professional work, she proactively seeks out and guides reporters to create interesting and engaging topics and encourages reporters to produce Emagazine works and produce various forms of journalism: print, television, online, and radio. For example, the work 'The Four Good Party Branch - The Core Lies in Party Members' that I worked on, thanks to her guidance, was more complete, reflecting the breath of life, and won second prize in the Quang Ninh Journalism Award in 2024."
Coming from a family with a journalistic tradition, journalist Do Phuong, a reporter in the News Department, has a father, journalist Do Khanh, formerly a reporter in the Economic Section (Quang Ninh Newspaper). Having been involved with his father's work since childhood, hearing stories about the profession, the joys and hardships of journalism, participating in assignments and traveling throughout the city, his passion for journalism, especially photojournalism, was nurtured and gradually developed from there.
Journalist Do Phuong shared that his love and passion for the profession helped him overcome difficulties and stay committed to journalism until now. Following in his father's footsteps, he will continue to hone his skills, strive to contribute to the profession, and always maintain the "essence" of a revolutionary journalist. To date, after many years of working in the profession, journalist Do Phuong has not only affirmed the trust and expectations of his father, but has also proven himself worthy of being a reporter in the Quang Ninh journalistic community with many insightful and engaging articles and works that promptly reflect socio-economic issues in the province.
In the Quang Ninh journalism community, everyone knows journalist Do Giang, the son of journalist and photographer Do Kha, former Head of the Political and Social Affairs Department (Quang Ninh Newspaper). Even more remarkably, Do Giang and Do Phuong are cousins, sons of uncles and aunts. Both share a passion for photojournalism, nurtured and cultivated from a young age. Journalist Do Giang is famous for his photographs of Ha Long Bay in its myriad forms. He holds the record for the most aerial photographs of Ha Long Bay taken by a single person. Besides that, he also captures many vivid and authentic images of the nature and people of Quang Ninh. His passion for photojournalism is deeply rooted, helping him overcome difficulties and remain dedicated to the profession.
Journalist Do Giang confided: "When I first started in journalism, I was very afraid of not being able to surpass my father's legacy, because he was not only skilled in photography, but also a journalist with deep and broad knowledge in many fields. Over time, thanks to my father's guidance and advice, and the sharing of friends and colleagues, I focused on creating photojournalism with the desire to 'tell' readers the most truthful and vivid stories about the nature and people of Quang Ninh. The agency has provided me with many opportunities to pursue my passion and 'soar' in my profession."
Journalist Do Giang currently works at the Reader and Documentation Department of the Provincial Media Center. He is one of the leading photographers in the province in terms of published photo books. He has also held solo photo exhibitions, including three exhibitions on the sacred Yen Tu mountain. His works have contributed to promoting the image of the people and nature of Quang Ninh to people both domestically and internationally.
Also from a family of filmmakers, continuing the family tradition, journalist Tran Tuan Hung, from the Arts, Sports, and Entertainment Department, has been involved in cinematography and image direction for nearly 20 years. He studied cinematography at the Television High School of Vietnam Television, and after graduating in 2005, he began working at Quang Ninh Radio and Television Station (now the Provincial Media Center). Throughout his career, he and his colleagues have traveled to every corner of his homeland, a region often described as "a miniature Vietnam." He recalls the early days when transportation was very difficult, with some assignments requiring him to carry heavy equipment weighing tens of kilograms, walking for kilometers through rugged, treacherous forest paths to meet ethnic minority communities and capture images of their lives. Despite the fatigue and hardship, he said it was "worth it," that journalists must immerse themselves and throw themselves into life to truly "feel" it and convey the most realistic footage to the audience.
Journalist Tuan Hung shared that to do a good job and serve the public, journalists must constantly improve their professional skills and possess strong political convictions. Assigned to oversee and monitor information and propaganda regarding current events, culture, arts, sports, entertainment, and tourism within his department's area of responsibility, journalist Tuan Hung participated in and produced high-quality news and articles promoting key political and cultural events of the province, such as: the Ha Long Carnival; traditional festivals of the localities of Binh Lieu, Tien Yen, Ba Che, Cam Pha, and Uong Bi; the Community Singing Festival; and series of articles evaluating the province's economic, cultural, and social development achievements in implementing the resolutions of the Party Congress at all levels for the 2020-2025 term... In particular, the live television broadcast of the 60th anniversary of the province's founding was entrusted to the Provincial Media Center. For journalist Tuan Hung, directing the live broadcast of such a major event was not only a challenge but also a motivation. He collaborated with his colleagues to successfully carry out the assigned task, bringing the most beautiful images and atmosphere of the ceremony to television viewers.
Throughout their careers, alongside the advantages of inheriting family traditions and the valuable experience of previous generations, young journalists and reporters have also faced many difficulties, even life-or-death situations (journalist Do Giang once fell from a rocky mountain in Ha Long Bay at a height of 8 meters while photographing the bay), suffered numerous scrapes and bruises from climbing hills and rocky waterfalls, and countless occupational accidents involving dropped cameras and drones... yet these young journalists and reporters are determined to persevere, fulfill their duties, and continue writing the journalistic legacy of their fathers and grandfathers.
Despite their diverse backgrounds, all journalists share a passion and love for journalism. The younger generation of journalists not only receive more thorough training from universities and professional institutions, but also gain access to new methods and approaches in the field, such as multimedia newsrooms, promoting the application of information technology, producing in-depth news articles that create effective media impact, and achieving significant accomplishments in journalism. Many journalists have won high awards at the National Journalism Awards, awards from ministries and agencies, as well as provincial journalism awards. A prime example is journalist Minh Thu, who consecutively won the First Prize at the Quang Ninh Journalism Awards from 2020 to 2025; the C Prize at the National Journalism Awards on Party Building in 2020 and 2021; and the A Prize at the Quang Ninh Provincial Journalism Awards on Party Building from 2021 to 2025. He won first prize in the competition for literary, artistic, and journalistic works commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of Quang Ninh province. Journalist Tuan Hung won the Gold Prize at the 42nd National Television Festival - 2025; first prize in the Quang Ninh Journalism Award in 2022; and first prize in the competition for literary, artistic, and journalistic works commemorating the 60th anniversary of the founding of the province...
Following in the footsteps of their predecessors, generations of journalists in Quang Ninh have remained absolutely loyal to the revolutionary cause of the Party, continuing to affirm their strong character and unwavering spirit, constantly improving their professional skills and journalistic ethics, maintaining "sharp eyes, incisive pens, and pure hearts," truthfully reflecting the issues of social life, worthy of the responsibility entrusted by the Party and the people, and making worthy contributions to the development of Vietnam's revolutionary press and the development of the province and the country.
