Are small bananas (likely a type of wild banana) or ripe bananas more nutritious?

VnExpressVnExpress10/04/2024

My husband likes to eat small, round bananas, while I prefer long, ripe bananas. Which type of banana is more nutritious? (Han, 25 years old, Binh Phuoc )

Reply:

Bananas are known to be a healthy food and are widely used in daily life.

According to studies, a 100g banana contains approximately 88 calories, with 90% of its composition being carbohydrates, including sugars such as glucose, sucrose, and fructose. The sugar content and glycemic index of a banana depend on its ripeness; the riper the banana, the more sugar it contains.

This fruit also contains plant essential oils such as antioxidants, and is low in protein and fat, all of which are beneficial to the body.

The "chuối cau" banana is a variety of banana with small, round, plump fruits resembling the shape of a betel nut. Each "chuối cau" banana, weighing approximately 80g, contains 72 kcal.

Ripe bananas are very nutritious, characterized by their long, curved shape and larger size compared to plantains. On average, one banana measuring 20 cm and weighing approximately 120-140 g contains 120 kcal.

Therefore, depending on daily fruit consumption needs, carbohydrate requirements, medical conditions, and preferences, users can choose the appropriate type and quantity of bananas. A normal person weighing 55-60 kg can eat 250-300 g of fruit per day, equivalent to 4-5 small bananas or 3 large ripe bananas.
