Art program

Comrade Nguyen Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa City, delivered the opening speech for the art program.

In his opening remarks at the art program, Comrade Nguyen Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Hoa City, recalled the glorious history of our army and people in the battle to protect Ham Rong Bridge: Having suffered defeats in the Southern battlefield, in late 1964 and early 1965, the US imperialists planned to bomb and attack the North in order to cut off the vital North-South transportation route and weaken the role of the large rear area of the North in supporting the Southern front. Ham Rong Bridge was located in a strategic position, so the US Air Force considered it an "ideal choke point," a "priority" target, and employed many brutal tactics for its attack.

Art program

The performance "The Party Is My Life" opened the art program.

On April 3rd and 4th, 1965, the US imperialists mobilized a large number of jet aircraft and bombs, relentlessly diving and dropping bombs on the small, narrow Ham Rong bridge. In just a moment, Ham Rong became a "cauldron" of war. In that fierce battle, every mountain, river, construction site, and factory was a target of intense bombing by the US Air Force.

Art program

To protect the Ham Rong Bridge, our forces deployed their main air defense units in combination with the low-altitude air defense forces of the Thanh Hoa armed forces, creating a multi-layered network of fire ready to intercept enemy aircraft. Facing the enemy's bombing and shelling, the people and soldiers of Thanh Hoa town and other participating forces clearly demonstrated the spirit of "living clinging to the bridge and road - dying bravely and resolutely," determined to protect the Ham Rong Bridge at all costs.

Art program

With that determination, on April 3rd and 4th, 1965, our army and people shot down 47 American aircraft and captured many enemy pilots. The American imperialists had to bitterly admit, "Those were two dark days for the US Air Force." For our army and people, those two days set a record for an unprecedented battle to protect a bridge, causing a stir in American public opinion and earning the admiration of peace-loving friends around the world .

Art program

The victory at Ham Rong - Nam Ngan is not only a source of pride for the people of Thanh Hoa and the Vietnamese nation, but also a triumph of the people's war strategy, of the unwavering will, steadfast character, and wisdom of Vietnam; it has become a shining symbol of revolutionary heroism, further inspiring faith and determination, and creating a powerful impetus to encourage the army and people of the whole country to advance and defeat the US imperialists and their puppets, regain independence and freedom, and unify the country.

Art program

Continuing the glorious tradition of previous generations, in the process of national renewal and development, with a spirit of hard work and creativity, the Party Committee, government, and people of the city have united, strived, and competed in labor and production, promoting industrialization and modernization, profoundly and comprehensively transforming the urban landscape. From a land ravaged by bombs and bullets, through the hands, minds, and creative spirit of many generations, Ham Rong and Thanh Hoa City today have developed into increasingly civilized and modern areas.
