During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh instructed: "Coal production is like the army fighting the enemy." When the coal producers are also soldier-workers, as in Company 790, Northeast Corporation, the noble qualities of Ho Chi Minh's soldiers are further enhanced. The soldier-workers of Company 790 have shouldered two roles: production and business, and military and national defense. They have fulfilled both roles, despite facing countless difficulties and challenges.

As a small-scale underground mining unit operating in a highly complex geological environment, Company 790 has consistently overcome the limitations of its mining area, proactively innovating its techniques, and effectively applying scientific and technological advancements to production in order to successfully fulfill its production and business objectives. Each year, the company invests tens of billions of dong in purchasing modern equipment to support production. With this approach, the unit's mining technology is now relatively modern, effectively meeting the development needs of the new era.

In production, Company 790 applies appropriate technology, ensuring high safety and mobility in the main shafts and narrow production areas. At the same time, the unit always prioritizes the thorough exploitation of resources, avoiding losses and improving coal quality. This approach ensures the highest resource recovery rate, contributing to cost savings and lower investment costs per ton of coal. As a result, from its early years of establishment to the present, the company's annual coal production has consistently exceeded planned targets. The company is consistently ranked as the leading unit in the Corporation in terms of coal quality and grade.

Colonel Ho Van Sang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Deputy Director of Company 790, said: "As a unit operating underground mines with narrow production areas in complex geological conditions, posing many potential risks of gas explosions, the company has paid great attention to implementing procedures and regulations on labor safety and fire prevention."

The mining departments have performed well in ventilation, mine gas control procedures, water and gas exploration drilling, column pressure checks, longwall coal mining techniques, single hydraulic supports, excavation and support techniques, management and use of industrial explosives, electromechanical work, and operation of equipment with strict and specific requirements… The transport workshops have done well in technical inspection of vehicles, welding and cutting procedures, machinery and equipment repair, and inspection of waste dumps and mining slopes…

To encourage and motivate cadres, employees, and workers to overcome difficulties and enthusiastically engage in production, the Party Committee and Board of Directors of the company have annually launched and effectively implemented emulation movements for decisive victory and breakthrough emulation, tailored to the practical conditions of the enterprise. A vibrant atmosphere of emulation has been created throughout the workshops and construction sites. The content of these emulation movements focuses on improving productivity and quality of raw coal mining; eliminating incidents and ensuring safety in production; applying technological advancements and reducing product costs...

Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quang Khanh, Foreman of Construction Site 2, stated: "From the difficult and arduous conditions of the mine, exemplary and outstanding miners have emerged, creating a widespread and positive influence within the unit. These exemplary miners have promptly encouraged and motivated the miners, ensuring their peace of mind in their work, their commitment to building the unit, and further enhancing the tradition of 'Uncle Ho's Soldiers'. Once again, they affirm the determination of the soldier-miners, contributing to the company's continued growth and strength."

Young Nguyen Van Duoc, a level 3/5 mine worker at Underground Mine No. 2, is one such exemplary figure. After graduating from Huu Nghi Mining Vocational College (now Vietnam Coal and Mineral Vocational College), Duoc applied to work at Company 790. Having been accustomed to farming in his hometown, he was initially bewildered by the small, dark, and cramped tunnels. However, the care of his superiors and the encouragement and support of his colleagues helped him overcome these initial difficulties. Above all, Duoc found joy in his work, growing to love mining and the mining region. He is proud to be both a soldier and a worker, and has continuously strived and dedicated himself to his unit and the Corporation.

Through his tireless efforts, Nguyen Van Duoc, a former coal miner, rose to become the team leader of the production team at Underground Mining Site No. 2, achieving an output of over 150,000 tons per year, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the company's total output. Overcoming difficulties arising from increasingly deeper mining areas, complex geological conditions, and numerous tunnels subsiding and requiring frequent reinforcement, he and his team members have always strived to mine coal efficiently, safely, and with high quality.

Over the years, his production team has consistently led the construction site in output. Specifically, in tunnel excavation with a cross-section of 7.5 m², the average productivity per person per shift is 0.4 meters of tunnel excavated. For stratified coal mining, his team also achieves a labor productivity of 5.5 tons per person per shift. He himself consistently works the full number of days per month, ranging from 24 to 26 days, with an average salary of over 33.8 million VND per month.

Moreover, as a team leader, he is always researching and learning about technical safety measures, analyzing potential hazards; actively mentoring, training, and helping new workers improve their skills and craftsmanship. Not only is he recognized as a skilled worker, but for many consecutive years, Mr. Được has been awarded the title of Outstanding Worker at the grassroots level and a typical young person at the Corporation level.

Exemplary individuals like furnace worker Nguyen Van Duoc are becoming increasingly common at Company 790. This stems from the company's strategy of investing in people, caring for human resources, and looking after the material and spiritual well-being of its employees. Alongside its production and business tasks, fulfilling its military and national defense duties, and ensuring stable income, the company prioritizes the material and spiritual well-being of its staff and workers.

Lieutenant Colonel Bui Manh Hung, Foreman of Workshop 4 (the workshop responsible for repairs and welfare) of Company 790, said: "Besides repairing machinery and equipment, we care for the furnace workers by providing them with industrial meals, organizing many cultural and artistic activities such as singing together, and self-composed, self-performed, and self-staged performances. From these activities, we have discovered many talented artists who have later been selected to participate in competitions and performances, enriching the spiritual lives of the officers, soldiers, and workers in the Company."

All of this has contributed to building a team with strong political convictions and excellent professional skills. In particular, the soldier-workers have demonstrated the qualities of Uncle Ho's soldiers, completing every task, overcoming every difficulty, fulfilling production and business plans as well as ensuring national defense.

Company 790 is a reputable and long-standing brand under the Northeast Corporation. Company 790 originated from the Quang Ninh Coal Mining Team of the 11th Army Corps from 1988-1990. Enterprise 790 was established under Construction Company 11 - General Department of Logistics. In 1994, Coal Mining Enterprise 790 was transferred to the Northeast Corporation. And in 2010, Coal Mining Enterprise 790 became Company 790.

In its early days, the company focused on coal mining to supply the military logistics sector. From the beginning, the unit faced numerous difficulties, including: a shortage of skilled and inexperienced personnel; limited financial resources; outdated mining technology; a lack of resource advantages; and small, scattered mining sites. However, with the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," the soldiers and workers united and overcame the most difficult times to build a progressively developing unit.

Every year, the company researches and applies scientific and technological advancements to production, proactively innovating and creating, and implementing many technical improvement initiatives. At the same time, it focuses on investing in modern equipment and technology to improve labor productivity in coal production and business.
