On the afternoon of May 5th, the Ho Chi Minh City Police FC decided to part ways with coach Le Huynh Duc, following poor performance in recent rounds of the V-League 2025-2026.
After Ho Chi Minh City FC was rebranded as Ho Chi Minh City Police FC, coach Le Huynh Duc was invited to lead the team. Despite having limited time to prepare, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC had a fairly good start to the 2025-2026 V-League season, consistently ranking in the top half of the table.
However, towards the end of the season, the police team's performance became inconsistent. In the last 5 rounds, coach Le Huynh Duc's team suffered 4 defeats. These included 3 heavy losses against Thanh Hoa (0-4), Hai Phong (0-3), and Hanoi Police (0-3). Most recently, Ho Chi Minh City Police Club lost 0-2 to Nam Dinh at Thien Truong Stadium in round 21 on May 1st.
Ranked 6th in the league table with 29 points after 21 matches and having secured their survival five rounds before the end of the season, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC still decided to make a change on the coaching staff after a recent series of unsuccessful matches.
Assistant coach Phung Thanh Phuong will temporarily replace coach Le Huynh Duc. In round 22, taking place on May 10th, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC will host Song Lam Nghe An at Binh Duong Stadium.
Although they no longer have a chance to compete for a top 3 spot in the V-League, Ho Chi Minh City Police FC still has the National Cup to hope for.
Accordingly, the team still has a semi-final match against host team Nam Dinh on June 11th to compete for a place in the final.
