Traditionally, graduation ceremonies should primarily be for students, but in reality, in many schools, this event has been mainly organized by teachers for many years, serving as an opportunity for the school to report on achievements, thank leaders and partners, etc. For students, if anything, the only parts are awards ceremonies and speeches of appreciation.

"If students are involved in organizing the event and the criteria are primarily focused on students, the graduation ceremony will be completely different: vibrant, youthful, emotional, and especially engaging for students," commented a leader in charge of education and training in the South after attending the graduation ceremony of Duy Tan High School (Binh Kien Ward, Dak Lak Province, formerly Tuy Hoa City, Phu Yen Province).

Students participate in the organization.

Having sat through the entire ceremony and witnessed all the activities, he affirmed that with student participation, the closing ceremony, opening ceremony, or other school activities would be "killing many birds with one stone."

"Firstly, it's a vivid lesson for students on event organization and management skills, teamwork skills, and creativity. Secondly, it demonstrates the school's trust and empowerment of its students."

Thirdly, the activities will attract the participation, attention, and interest of all students from beginning to end. There will be no dozing off, no yawning, no students talking or doing private work, and no leaving early in the middle of the session," the leader analyzed.

Having attended numerous opening and closing ceremonies as well as school activities, he said he himself was captivated by the closing ceremony of Duy Tan High School.

"Not only the students but also the teachers and guests were surprised and delighted by the performances, ideas, and speeches of the students. I myself learned a lot from this graduation ceremony," he added.

Duy Tan High School has nearly 2,000 students across three levels: primary, secondary, and high school. To ensure the graduation ceremony truly focused on the students, the school organized three separate ceremonies. The first was for high school students, held on the morning of May 22nd (with a gratitude and graduation ceremony in the afternoon); followed by ceremonies for primary school students (morning of May 23rd) and secondary school students (afternoon of May 23rd).

"We do this so that the closing ceremony doesn't last too long, preventing students from getting tired and having to wait a long time. At each closing ceremony, students are encouraged and given the opportunity to participate and contribute ideas and suggestions on how to organize it," said Associate Professor Dr. Le Van Nam, the school's principal.

Having witnessed the graduation ceremony (of the 12th grade) or the impressive artistic performances and speeches delivered without notes, in both Vietnamese and English by Lê Ngân An, the most outstanding "Global Citizen" student in the elementary school, one realizes that anything that comes from students, by students, and for students will surely have students.

Rewards are meant to encourage and inspire.

The awards ceremony at the closing ceremony is also worth mentioning. In many schools, awards are merely symbolic and only given to students with good academic achievements, but at Duy Tan High School, awards are meant to encourage and motivate students, and importantly, to spread inspiration.

"Almost all students at the school received awards at the closing ceremony. We commend students for showing progress compared to their past selves, not just for having good academic results or outstanding achievements."

"This means that rewards are meant to encourage, not to elevate one student and sometimes hurt another, nor to compare students with each other," said Mr. Hoang Anh Tuan, Deputy Principal of the school.

Teacher Tuan added that the school's policy is not only to reward students for academic achievements, but also to recognize and reward students who make efforts and achieve good results in arts, sports, or sports, or who perform good deeds and actions.

"The awarding of prizes not only honors individuals and groups but also spreads inspiration for learning and self-improvement among students, while encouraging and motivating them to strive to become better versions of themselves every day," Mr. Tuan shared.

Global citizens, Vietnamese identity

This is the slogan of Duy Tan High School.

"In addition to internationally standardized facilities, the school's educational program must equip students with foreign language skills, technology, knowledge, and abilities to become global citizens while simultaneously not forgetting their national roots."

"I believe that foreign languages are merely a means to help students integrate, but fundamentally, they are Vietnamese and must understand and know about their roots, the proud history of their nation, and the patriotic spirit, studiousness, diligence, and hard work of the Vietnamese people," said Dr. Huynh Ba Lan, founder and chairman of the board of Duy Tan High School.

Not only did they praise the teachers, but the students of the school also received praise.

At the closing ceremony, although students from Duy Tan High School won many awards in academic and skills competitions in Dak Lak province, the school not only rewarded these students but also provided funding for the Dak Lak Alumni Association to award teachers and students from other schools in the province who achieved outstanding results in the 2015-2026 school year.
