The season is still long for the "Red Devils". |
In the ninth round of the Premier League, a 4-2 victory against Brighton at home helped MU climb to fourth place with 16 points, three points behind leaders Arsenal. And the "Red Devils" fans began to dream about the race for a Champions League spot, or even the title.
However, Opta 's simulations suggest that Manchester United's chances of participating in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) next season are lower than even dark horses like Bournemouth or Palace. With the Premier League having at least four direct qualification spots (and potentially five thanks to European performance), the race for the top five is hotter than ever.
Based on 10,000 simulated scenarios, Arsenal are leading with almost a 93.45% chance, while "dark horses" like Crystal Palace and Bournemouth have surprisingly made it onto the list.
Despite their recent slump, Liverpool still have a 73.99% chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season, while Manchester City also have 73.51%. Chelsea only have 41.39%, while dark horses like Crystal Palace have 24%, Aston Villa 20.67%, Bournemouth 17.38%, and Brighton 16.19%.
Surprisingly, Manchester United only have a 15.87% chance of qualifying for the Champions League next season. Despite their high position in the table, Opta's prediction model clearly doesn't rate MU highly. To compete for a Champions League spot, MU needs to maintain consistency throughout all 38 league matches.
Given the performance of English clubs in Europe last season (including the fifth qualifying spot), the Premier League is almost certain to have five representatives in the 2025/26 UCL.
