Public opinion in Brazil is divided over Neymar. |
With less than two months before the start of the FIFA World Cup 2026, the atmosphere surrounding the Brazilian national team is shrouded in doubt.
A survey published by Genial/Quaest shows that the majority of fans surveyed are not optimistic about the "Selecao's" chances of winning the championship, and remain divided on Neymar's return.
Specifically, according to results released on April 16th, as many as 54% of respondents said they were "not at all excited" about the upcoming World Cup. Only 12% felt "very excited," while 32% said they were only "slightly excited." These figures clearly reflect the reserved attitude of Brazilian fans ahead of the tournament held in North America.
That caution is also reflected in the belief in a sixth championship title. 68% of those surveyed believe Brazil will not be able to win. Only 24% believe the yellow and green team has what it takes to reach the top of the world . The rest did not express an opinion.
Another noteworthy point is the story of Neymar. After a long period struggling with injuries, the 34-year-old star remains a subject of intense debate.
49% of respondents supported Neymar's inclusion in the World Cup squad. Conversely, 41% did not want the former captain to return to the national team. This close ratio shows that Neymar's image in his homeland remains very special because, despite being a major icon, he is always a controversial figure.
If in good physical condition, Neymar remains one of Brazil's most experienced players, having participated in numerous World Cups and held a leadership role among older generations. However, his age and injury history have led many to doubt his actual ability to contribute.
