On December 4th, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Tri province announced that the Government had issued Resolution No. 389/NQ-CP, adding three border gates in Quang Tri province – Gianh Port, Hon La, and Cua Viet – to the list of 41 international border gates authorized to process entry and exit procedures using electronic visas (e-visas).
Thus, Quang Tri province currently has 7 border gates, including land, air, and sea ports, that will implement e-visa. This is considered an important step in expanding trade access for the locality, creating a foundation for the strong development of sea tourism and attracting high-spending international tourists. It is a crucial "lever" for the province to attract cruise lines, international tour routes, and high-end tourist groups.
Quang Tri boasts nearly 200 km of coastline, along with a diverse ecosystem and abundant tourism resources, ranging from eco-tourism and nature tourism to cultural and historical tourism, marine sports, agriculture , and high-end resorts. In the context of the province prioritizing attracting international cruise ships, being allowed to apply e-visas at major ports is a crucial condition for Quang Tri to increase its competitiveness compared to other destinations in the region.

Caravan - A new opportunity for tourism in Quang Tri

Many foreign tourists currently staying in Central Vietnam have expressed excitement about this news. Michael D., a tourist from Australia, shared: “I’ve always wanted to travel by sea along Central Vietnam, but the procedures made me hesitant. Now that Quang Tri has implemented e-visas at its ports, travel has become much easier. I really hope to be able to visit one of Quang Tri’s seaports on my next trip.”
Quang Tri is becoming an "emerging destination" on the Southeast Asian coastal tourism map: "I've seen pictures of Quang Tri's beaches and famous historical, cultural, and scenic spots. If cruise ships can conveniently dock using e-visas, this will certainly be a destination that international tourists cannot miss..." shared Mr. Michael D.
For travel businesses targeting tourists visiting Quang Tri, the expanded e-visa policy will help them easily develop new tourism products, connect international tours, and offer high-end cruise itineraries. “With the upgraded Hon La and Cua Viet ports, coupled with a more open policy, Quang Tri can certainly welcome large cruise ships in the near future.”
According to statistics from Quang Binh province, as of November 2025, the number of tourists reached over 9.19 million, an increase of 17.2% compared to the same period last year; of which international tourists increased by as much as 42.8%. The expansion of e-visa shows the expectation that Quang Tri will continue to experience strong growth, especially in the segment of high-spending international tourists – a group of tourists considered a crucial driving force of modern tourism.
