Should you eat loach regularly?

VnExpressVnExpress13/11/2023

My family often eats loach because many people think that they are rich in nutrients, calcium, and especially enhance physiology. Is this true? (Tuan, 43 years old, Hanoi )

Reply:

In Oriental medicine, loach is considered "water ginseng" because it has many effects of nourishing the body and enhancing physiology. Loach contains a lot of lysine - an essential component in sperm formation. Therefore, eating loach not only helps increase the quantity but also the quality of sperm.

In addition, loach fish contains a lot of calcium. According to the Vietnamese food composition table, 100g of loach fish provides 109mg of calcium along with protein and other nutrients, the calcium content is 6 times higher than carp and about 10 times higher than squid, helping to prevent rickets in children and strengthen bones in the elderly. You can cook it with tofu to increase the best calcium content for the body.

Eating small fish with bones will absorb the most calcium. To ensure maximum quality, you should buy fresh loach, still wriggling strongly, large body, clear eyes, shiny skin and bright red gills. You can eat this type of fish regularly, but need to diversify the food, should not consume continuously.

In addition, you should not eat loach with vinegar, tomatoes, or dog meat because of the risk of poisoning and digestive disorders. Cook thoroughly and avoid eating raw to prevent parasitic infections.
