On January 17, the stock market traded well with only 2 sessions left for the Lunar New Year 2023 holiday. At the end of the session, the VN-Index increased by 21.61 points, equivalent to 2.03%, to 1,088.29 points. Similarly, the HNX-Index also increased by 4.27 points, equivalent to 2.02%, to 215.15 points.

A series of stocks went up. In which, the steel industry stocks led the market when many codes increased to the ceiling such as HPG, HSG, NKG, KKC, HMG... Next were securities stocks with an average increase of nearly 4% but there was still no stock as purple as the steel group. The banking group also increased simultaneously and contributed a lot to the score in the VN-Index such as STB, TPB, MBB, CTG,ACB ...

Stocks rose on January 17 with steel stocks leading the way.

On the contrary, in the basket of 30 blue-chip stocks on the Ho Chi Minh City Stock Exchange, only Sabeco 's SAB stock fell by VND1,500 to VND187,000. Meanwhile, VHM code, which unexpectedly fell sharply in the morning, was pulled back to green at VND52,000 by the end of the session, up VND700 compared to the reference price.

The surprisingly active trading focused on banking, securities and steel stocks, helping to increase market liquidity. A total of more than VND12,800 billion was traded on the two listed exchanges, nearly 30% higher than the average per session of the past week.

Thus, the VN-Index has surpassed the technical threshold of 1,065 points for two sessions. This makes investors more optimistic before the long holiday of the Year of the Cat 2023. According to forecasts of some securities companies, the market shows signs of entering a period of strong fluctuations in a positive direction, showing that the VN-Index is showing signs of soon escaping the sideways phase in the recent period and the cash flow may no longer be differentiated. However, the short-term sentiment indicator has little change, showing that investors are still cautious with the current market developments.
