Receiving the new flag from the delegation, Mr. Le Hoang Dung, a fisherman from Mai Hoa hamlet, Tan Tien commune, emotionally said: "For fishermen, the national flag is always displayed in the highest and most dignified position on the boat. Every time we go out to sea, seeing the red flag with a yellow star fluttering in the open ocean makes us feel more secure and gives us more motivation to overcome difficulties and storms to continue fishing."
According to Mr. Dung, many fishing trips last for months in harsh weather conditions, causing the flags to fade or get damaged easily. Therefore, handing over new flags to fishermen is extremely meaningful, demonstrating the concern of the Party, the State, and relevant authorities for those who are working day and night at sea.
Major General Tran Van Xuan, Deputy Political Commissar of the Vietnam Coast Guard (second from the right), and Comrade Tran Huu Phuoc, Head of the Internal Affairs Committee of the Ca Mau Provincial Party Committee (far left), presented the national flag, a portrait of President Ho Chi Minh, and gifts to fishermen exploiting marine resources in the southwestern sea area during a survey trip to assess the situation of the southwestern sea and islands in 2026.
Sharing the same sentiment, Mr. Nguyen Gal Sel, a fisherman from Mai Hoa hamlet, added that every time fishermen encounter the coast guard on duty at sea, they feel more secure. Besides providing assistance when ships encounter problems, the officers and soldiers also regularly disseminate legal information and guide fishermen on how to exploit aquatic resources in accordance with regulations.
"The national flag is not only a source of pride but also reminds us of our responsibility to uphold the image of Vietnamese people and strictly abide by regulations when operating at sea," Gal Sel shared.
Across the seas of our homeland, the red flag with a yellow star fluttering on thousands of fishing vessels has become a familiar sight. Each flag not only expresses the patriotism, unwavering will, and aspiration of Vietnamese fishermen to venture out to sea, but also affirms the legitimate presence of Vietnamese fishing vessels in traditional waters. Through this, they work together with functional forces to safeguard national sovereignty , sovereign rights, and jurisdiction at sea.
The national flag flies proudly aboard fishing vessel CM 95800 TS, which is operating in the southwestern sea region.
Let's work together to safeguard our maritime and island sovereignty.
For many years, fishermen have not only been a force exploiting resources at sea but also directly providing information and working with functional forces to protect maritime sovereignty and islands. In the middle of the ocean, the red flag with a yellow star still flies proudly on every ship, serving as both a source of national pride and a reminder of the responsibility to preserve the homeland's seas and islands for today and future generations.
As a locality with many fishermen whose livelihoods depend on seafood exploitation, Tan Tien commune has always considered raising legal awareness among its people as a crucial task. Mr. Doan Chi Linh, Vice Chairman of the Tan Tien Commune People's Committee, stated: "Through activities such as disseminating legal information and presenting national flags by the coast guard, fishermen have a better understanding of regulations in fisheries exploitation. These activities not only motivate them to venture out to sea but also enhance their sense of responsibility in protecting maritime sovereignty and islands."
According to Lieutenant Colonel Trinh Minh Hien, Political Commissar of Naval Squadron 42, Command of Coast Guard Region 4, along with the task of enforcing the law and protecting sovereignty, security, and safety at sea, the unit always focuses on public relations work and caring for the lives of fishermen. The program of presenting national flags, gifts, and disseminating legal information to fishermen is regularly maintained by the unit. Through this, the close relationship between the coast guard and fishermen is strengthened, building a solid foundation of public support at sea.
Each national flag presented conveys a message of love for the homeland and civic responsibility. We hope that fishermen will continue to venture out to sea, exploit marine resources legally, and actively cooperate with functional forces in protecting the sovereignty of the nation's seas and islands.
