Daughter of People's Artist Tra Giang

In the Beethoven and Rachmaninov concert, the audience will enjoy the masterpieces of two composers Ludwig van Beethoven and Sergei Rachmaninov. The program is staged and conducted by Meritorious Artist Tran Vuong Thach, and also features the participation of international pianist Nguyen Bich Tra, who has returned from the UK.

Pianist Nguyen Bich Tra (Tra Nguyen) is the daughter of People's Artist Tra Giang. Bich Tra studied abroad very early, after graduating, she lived in London, currently often performing and teaching music in the UK, Hong Kong and Vietnam. She is the first Vietnamese artist to have a solo recording contract with Naxos, one of the world's leading record labels. Her 3 solo CDs released globally by Naxos since the end of 2011 have helped her develop her talent through many competitions and be recognized at international music awards.

She was also one of the 10 outstanding faces of Vietnamese youth in 2002 and was the first Vietnamese person to be awarded the title of ARAM (Associate of the Royal Academy of Music, member of the Royal Academy of Music, UK) for outstanding musical contributions in 2013.

The evening opened with Mikhail Glinka's Ruslan and Ludmila Overture. Considered the father of modern Russian music, Glinka's nationalistic works have had a strong influence on all subsequent Russian composers, from Rimsky-Korskov to Tchaikovsky to Stravinsky.

After his death, the work was a great success and is one of the classics of Russian opera. The overture consists of two main themes based on Russian, Finnish, Tartar and Persian music, all of which are excellently orchestrated, with theme 1 being rhythmic and leisurely, and theme 2 being lyrical and sensual.

Next, the audience will admire the masterpiece marking Rachmaninov's spectacular return to the piano genre, the Piano Concerto No. 2. The passionate melodies with diverse colors based on the delicate arrangement have made the piece become the most wonderful symphony of the post-Romantic period. The two works will be performed under the skillful fingers of pianist Nguyen Bich Tra.

Likened by Robert Schumann to "a slender Greek maiden between two Nordic giants", Beethoven's Symphony No. 4 in B-flat major will dominate the second part of the concert.

The work was written by him in the summer of 1806. The solo piano sounds like a bright spot, the beautiful melody blends with the melodious sound of the strings, combining the minuet's dance steps with the fast rhythms of the allegro. All create a perfect piece of music, with subtle colors from climax to calm.
