Antony is living the best days of his career. |
Playing for Real Betis, the Brazilian star is living the most sublime days of his career. "Antony fever is really exploding in Sevilla (Betis' headquarters)", wrote Daily Mail .
Antony left Betis fans skeptical when he was brought in on loan in January 2025. No one was sure whether a player with poor form, low confidence, and a huge salary could make it in La Liga.
But scouting director Alvaro Garcia believes in intuition. "There is no formula. We just think that if we give Antony a chance, put him at the centre of the team, he will come back," Garcia declared.
That faith was rewarded. Antony immediately impressed with an excellent performance on his debut against Athletic Bilbao. Since then, he has continued to score, assist and create breakthroughs. From the stands to the club shop, everywhere is filled with the "Antony 7" shirt.
More importantly, it's his attitude. From being judged to have a big ego, Antony arrived at Betis with humility, sociability and hard work. He regularly stopped to sign autographs after training, posed for pictures with seniors, and participated in community activities with the club. Teammates described Antony as "humble and eager to contribute".

No one remembers that Antony was once an expensive, ineffective contract for MU. |
On the pitch, Antony has also shown his class. Since his debut on 2 February, he ranks second in La Liga for chances created and successful dribbles. His goal against Fiorentina in the first leg of the Conference League semi-final on 2 May has further increased his value. And when Betis ended a nine-year winless streak against Sevilla in the derby, Antony's name rang out throughout the Benito Villamarin stadium.
Teammates love Antony so much that they joked that they would pool money to keep him. Captain Isco humorously called for a crowdfunding campaign, while former player Joaquin said: "If necessary, I will drive and kidnap Antony to make him stay."
However, everything is still open. Although Betis wants to keep him, the fee to buy Antony is too high. MU wants to sell him outright, while Betis prefers to borrow him for another season. Antony also did not make his stance clear, only gently sharing: "I am very happy here, but it is too early to talk about the future."
Meanwhile, Betis fans and insiders are doing their best to keep the "number 7" at the club. In 6 months, Antony helped the club climb from 11th place to the top 5 of La Liga, have a chance to win the European championship and turn Sevilla into his own little paradise.
From a nightmare in Manchester, Antony is living the dream at Betis. The question remains, will the dream continue beyond the summer?
