Dong Da Secondary School (Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City) has announced the disciplinary action taken against the student who assaulted a classmate.
Mr. Lam Huy Hoang, Principal of Dong Da Secondary School, said that the school's disciplinary council had agreed on the disciplinary action for the student fight. This included a male student repeatedly punching another student in the face, and several other students witnessing the incident without intervening, even filming it and spreading the video on social media on October 29th.
According to Mr. Hoang, after reviewing and considering the severity of the violations, the disciplinary council unanimously agreed on the forms of punishment.
Specifically, male students who repeatedly slap and hit their classmates on the head and face will be suspended from school for two weeks, have their first-semester conduct rating lowered, and will continue to be monitored to assess their progress in the second semester.
In addition, the male student who was beaten by his classmate was also at fault and had his conduct rating lowered for the month. The students who filmed the incident and those who watched were also suspended from school for one week and had their conduct ratings lowered for the month.
The disciplinary measures will be applied starting November 14th, after the students complete their midterm exams.
The principal of Dong Da Secondary School added that the disciplinary measures for students are primarily educational and corrective. During the temporary suspension of school attendance, students will have to self-study and complete assignments using materials provided by teachers. The school also assigns homeroom teachers to coordinate with subject teachers to provide subject materials and support students if they encounter difficult or unclear knowledge.
The video shows a male student repeatedly hitting his classmate on the head and face.
Previously, as Thanh Nien Newspaper reported, on October 30th, a 15-second video of school violence circulated on social media showing a male student cursing while repeatedly slapping and punching another male student in the face right in the classroom.
The male student being beaten could only cover his head and endure the vulgar insults and the continuous slaps and punches to his face and head.
The administration of Dong Da Secondary School confirmed that the incident occurred in a 9th-grade classroom on October 25th.
Recognizing the psychological impact of the incident on students and the distress it caused to parents, the Department of Education and Training of Binh Thanh District requested the school to establish a disciplinary committee to handle the case in order to deter and educate the students. The Department of Education and Training also requested that the school mention the incident during the flag-raising ceremony to warn, remind, and educate all students to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
According to Mr. Tran Anh Kiet, Head of the Education and Training Department, the Department seriously criticized the Board of Directors of Dong Da Secondary School and directed all schools in the district to pay special attention to student management. The school needs to strengthen supervision to prevent school violence, enhance life skills education for students, and improve the effectiveness of the school's psychological counseling services.
