Elon Musk sues Apple and OpenAI.

Elon Musk's xAI company and X Corp. have filed a lawsuit against Apple and OpenAI, alleging they maintain an illegal monopoly in the artificial intelligence industry. The lawsuit focuses on the integration of ChatGPT into iPhones through the Apple Intelligence platform.

Musk argues that Apple has "prioritized" ChatGPT in the App Store, effectively sidelining competing AI apps like Grok and X. He claims iPhone users are being forced to use ChatGPT as their default chatbot, reducing the accessibility of third-party apps.

According to the lawsuit, Apple and OpenAI have “locked down the market” to prevent competitors. The deep integration of ChatGPT into the iPhone operating system gives OpenAI access to billions of interactions from hundreds of millions of devices, creating an unfair advantage.

OpenAI called the lawsuit “part of Musk’s ongoing pattern of harassment.” Meanwhile, Apple maintains that the App Store is designed to be “fair and unbiased,” rejecting Musk’s allegations.

Self-driving car test in the heart of New York City.

Waymo has just been granted permission to test self-driving vehicles in Manhattan and Downtown Brooklyn — two of New York City's busiest areas. This marks the first time the city has authorized a "test deployment" of self-driving cars, signifying a major turning point in the smart transportation industry.

Even though it's a self-driving car, Waymo still has to ensure a driver is behind the wheel throughout the testing process. This is mandatory under New York state law, which does not yet allow completely driverless vehicles.

Waymo is required to regularly submit test data to the Department of Transportation to demonstrate compliance with safety and security standards, particularly regarding cybersecurity.

New York is not only densely populated but also has a chaotic traffic system, with many pedestrians, cyclists, taxis, and unpredictable situations. Testing here is an extremely rigorous test for self-driving technology — if successful, Waymo will have a solid foundation to expand its service to other major cities.

Waymo is permitted to deploy a maximum of eight vehicles until the end of September 2025. After that, the company can apply for an extension. Simultaneously, they are lobbying for changes to the law to allow fully autonomous vehicles in the future.

China is building a national computing platform.

China is accelerating the construction of a nationwide integrated computing platform to improve the quality and efficiency of computing resources. The goal is to strengthen core technological capabilities such as AI chips and big language modeling algorithms.

According to experts, computing power is a key factor in the global technology race. Every 1 yuan invested in computing can generate 3-4 yuan of GDP growth. China is currently growing its computing power by about 30% annually.

The new platform is described as a “unified network” that helps coordinate resources between regions. For example, businesses in the east can utilize idle resources in the west to save costs. A healthcare company in Beijing completed an AI task for only 10,000 yuan, instead of over 2 million.

The platform currently has over 1,000 registered businesses, nearly 100 major language models connected, and serves more than 1,000 developers.

Domestic AI chip companies like Cambricon Technologies are experiencing strong growth. Cambricon shares have risen more than 562% since September 2024 and are now among the most expensive stocks on the A-share market.
