VnExpressVnExpress14/06/2023

According to Deputy Minister Bui The Duy, over the past six months, the world has witnessed an explosive growth in artificial intelligence (AI), which is becoming a crucial foundational technology driving digital transformation across industries and sectors.

This information was shared by Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy at the workshop "Promoting the application and development of artificial intelligence technology in the process of industrialization and modernization," within the framework of the 2023 High-Level Forum and International Exhibition on Industry 4.0, organized by the Central Economic Committee on June 14.

Deputy Minister Duy stated that since the concept of Industry 4.0 was introduced globally, the landscape has shifted towards more practical and accessible technologies, promoting the application of AI in daily life. Along with the strong digital transformation taking place in various countries, AI is contributing to changing the way we work. In the past six months, the world has witnessed an explosive growth in the trend of super-large-scale AI, through AI generation systems, GPT chat, image and video processing systems combined with big data, transforming people's daily lives. "Vietnam has quickly embraced this trend through organizing Industry 4.0 forums and implementing a national digital transformation strategy," Deputy Minister Duy said.

He mentioned several pillars that need to be prioritized in promoting and developing artificial intelligence, the first being AI expert human resources and digital technology skills; computing and data infrastructure... All three of these pillars "still have a lot of work to do".

Another pillar is institutional regulation on AI ethics, deepfakes, video and image processing, and regulations for building AI systems... "Currently, the Ministry of Science and Technology is collaborating with Australian experts to build a regulatory system for 'Responsible Artificial Intelligence' - responsibility from the builder to the user," Mr. Duy said.

In recent years, AI technology has developed rapidly, becoming increasingly sophisticated and expanding into many fields in Vietnam, said Dr. Duong Duy Hung, Assistant Head of the Central Economic Committee, in his speech. He stated that Vietnam considers the digital technology industry (prioritizing the development of artificial intelligence, big data, blockchain, cloud computing, the Internet of Things, electronic and telecommunication devices, and semiconductor chip design and manufacturing) as one of the six foundational industries.

Citing forecasts from leading global auditing firm PriceWaterhouse Coopers, which predict that AI will contribute an additional $15.7 trillion to the global economy by 2030, creating new industries and jobs, Mr. Hung also emphasized the benefits this technology brings. However, Vietnam also faces difficulties and challenges in building and connecting data and computing infrastructure; training and developing high-quality human resources; institutions and policies; and mobilizing and attracting diverse resources for AI development...

At the event, representatives from businesses and AI technology development units also illustrated many practical results showing that AI technology is present in many fields. These include AI applications in customer assessment and analysis solutions, digital customer experiences implemented with personal virtual assistants, and data tools to generate comprehensive reports and support decision-making.

Experts emphasize that for Vietnam to seize the advantages of AI technology, the most important thing is to develop human resources, followed by deploying computing infrastructure, and paying attention to data issues, including sharing open data with the scientific community and data mining entities.

2023 Industry 4.0 Summit With the theme "Promoting digital transformation and green transformation to shorten the process of industrialization and modernization of the country in the new situation," the event attracted the attention of more than 1,500 domestic and international delegates. The event included a high-level forum and four thematic workshops on enhancing smart manufacturing capabilities and developing the digital technology industry according to the Make in Vietnam orientation; promoting the application of artificial intelligence in the process of industrialization and modernization; technology trends and solutions for energy development and digital transformation and green digital transformation in the service sector.
