With thorough training and access to many modern technologies, students can easily find suitable jobs or create their own employment after graduation. These are the basic advantages that create the special appeal of the Automotive Technology profession today. Because of this appeal, the Automotive Technology profession consistently achieves outstanding enrollment numbers at vocational training institutions in the province.
After graduating from high school, instead of taking the university entrance exam, Tran Huu Quy, from Gia Vuong commune, Gia Vien district, applied to vocational school. The profession Quy chose was automotive technology at the Vietnam-Soviet Construction and Mechanical Engineering College. "I've always loved engineering, especially assembling models since I was little. Therefore, after graduating from high school, I immediately applied to study automotive technology at the Vietnam-Soviet Construction and Mechanical Engineering College."
Of course, the automotive technology profession is not easy to learn; it requires meticulousness, a thirst for knowledge, and the effort to adapt to the ever-changing technology. But it is precisely these challenges that make it so attractive to me.
Furthermore, through advice from teachers, businesses, and observations of the labor market, I've seen that the automotive technology profession has great potential. When I started studying, I felt even more reassured because senior students easily found jobs after graduation. Many even earned income while still in their internships," shared Quy.
According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Phong, Vice Principal of the Vietnam-Soviet Mechanical and Construction College: The Mechanical Engineering Department is currently teaching two trades: Construction Machinery Operation and Automotive Technology. The teaching staff currently consists of 18 people, all of whom meet the required standards. Automotive Technology is a key trade in the ASEAN region. Since 2017, Automotive Technology has received investment from the French Government 's AFD project with funding of 1.5 million EURO.
The project has invested in teaching equipment for automotive technology vocational training: automobiles; models; equipment; tools... and training programs and learning materials. Therefore, the school's current training equipment basically meets the technological requirements and needs of businesses. To improve the quality of training, the school has collaborated with businesses such as Hyundai Thanh Cong, Mitsubishi Ninh Binh , etc., to jointly develop training programs and curricula, conduct production internships, and employ graduates after graduation.
With these advantages, Automotive Technology is the most popular major at the Vietnam-Soviet Construction and Mechanical Engineering College each year. Currently, the department has over 300 students. Considered a trending profession, the employment rate for graduates after graduation is 90% or higher. Many graduates have boldly opened their own auto repair shops, providing employment for numerous workers and ensuring a good income.
At Ninh Binh Mechanical Engineering College, the Automotive Technology Department offers training in two professions: Automotive Technology and Construction Machinery Repair. The department's annual enrollment is 340 students.
Identified as a key profession and a strength in attracting students, Ninh Binh Mechanical Engineering College has invested in facilities and teaching equipment for the automotive technology program. As a result, the quality of training has been improved, meeting the needs of the labor market.
For the school, the automotive technology major consistently ranks among the top-performing programs in terms of enrollment numbers, with a steady increase each year. Therefore, despite the general difficulties in student recruitment for vocational schools, the Faculty's enrollment results have consistently met and exceeded targets in recent years. Specifically, in 2022, the Faculty achieved 355 out of 340 student enrollments, and in 2023, up to the present time, it has reached 349 out of 340 student enrollments.
Mr. Tran Cong Quyen, Director of the Admissions and Job Placement Center at Ninh Binh Mechanical College, said: Automotive technology is a rapidly changing industry, requiring businesses, schools, and students alike to adapt to keep pace with technological advancements.
If we don't act quickly, students will fall behind and struggle to meet the demands of today's labor market. Therefore, in automotive technology training programs, in addition to focusing on students, innovating training programs, and improving teaching quality, a crucial factor is perfecting learning equipment.
Accordingly, Ninh Binh Mechanical Engineering College has also focused its resources on investing in equipment for the department… with tens of billions of VND to ensure modern equipment meets current training requirements. In particular, recognizing that for the automotive technology profession, gaining practical knowledge at businesses is essential for high-quality training, the college connects its students with and facilitates internships at large enterprises.
Here, students are given the best conditions during their internships; they have access to modern tools, equipment, and the latest technology from the company. At the same time, they receive training in soft skills relevant to their work. Many students have been hired immediately after graduation. This collaborative training not only helps students meet the needs of businesses but also serves as a "channel" for businesses to recruit employees who meet their specific requirements.
The businesses with which the school has signed cooperation agreements for training and internships for students include: Honda Ha Nam , Kia Mazda Ninh Binh, Mitsubishi Ninh Binh… and many auto repair shops in the province. Students participating in production internships at these businesses are highly appreciated by the companies, and they usually hire all interns after graduation.
