(To Quoc) - While in the past, travel was simply about famous destinations and traditional itineraries, today, technology has completely changed the way we explore the world . Not only has it made travel more convenient, but technology has also created opportunities for unprecedented experiences, breaking old boundaries and opening up new horizons for the travel-loving generation, especially Gen Z.

As a young person, I once dreamed of taking a solo trip to challenge myself. My 8-day, 7-night journey in Taiwan (China) took me through cities from Taipei, Keelung, Taichung, Chiayi to Kaohsiung. That trip was the clearest proof that technology can make solo travel easier and more enjoyable.
I booked high-speed train tickets, bus tickets to Alishan National Park, entrance tickets to tourist attractions, and even an eSIM through Klook. These apps not only support multiple languages but also offer many deals that saved me money compared to buying directly at the destination. In each city, I flexibly chose my accommodation through Booking.com, where the map clearly shows hotels near the city center or train station, making it easy for me to plan my trip.
Social media platforms like Instagram and TikTok were also important sources of inspiration. I discovered many unique places, such as hidden cafes in small alleys in Taipei or little-known coastal roads in Keelung. Videos and posts from local influencers were truly a guide, helping me create a unique journey.

From personal experience, it's clear that technology not only simplifies initial preparations but also shapes how we enjoy every moment of our trips. A survey published by Booking.com predicting travel trends for 2025 revealed a growing demand for authentic and lesser-known experiences; 79% of Vietnamese travelers stated they use technology to search for unique and lesser-known destinations. Expedia's research also indicates that 65% of Gen Z choose destinations based on information found on online platforms. From booking flights and hotels on apps like Agoda or Booking.com, to creating their own itineraries via Google Travel or TripIt, everything is conveniently done with just a few clicks.
Furthermore, technologies like virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) allow travelers to "pre-explore" destinations before actually arriving. This means you can "step inside" the Louvre Museum to see the Mona Lisa, or stroll around the Grand Canyon from the comfort of your home, before deciding whether this place is truly your next destination.

Technology is fueling new travel trends: more flexible, innovative, and free-spirited. In an increasingly open world, solo travel is becoming a favorite choice for many young people, especially Gen Z. While in the past, trips were often associated with groups of friends or guided tours, now technology has given them the confidence and motivation to explore the world on their own.
Apps like Agoda, Klook, and Booking.com not only help book flights and hotels but also offer group tours and personalized experience packages for solo travelers. This allows those traveling alone to participate in exciting activities such as hiking, exploring, or experiencing local culture without worrying about loneliness.
Mobile devices such as smartphones, smartwatches, and handheld gimbals allow young people to freely record their journeys. Through remote control applications, they can take photos and videos without needing a professional photographer. Perfect footage and photos can now be captured with just a phone and a compact tripod.
Besides promoting solo travel, technology is also opening up unprecedented forms of tourism. From virtual travel via VR and AR technology to workcations, the world is becoming more flexible than ever. With the help of technology, a freelancer can work remotely in Bali while enjoying the beautiful beaches and blue sea.

Recording devices like GoPros, drones, and high-end smartphones also help young people create content and tell their stories in new and innovative ways. According to data from Statista, 86% of Gen Z use their phones to take photos and videos while traveling. Unique moments captured from creative angles not only help them preserve memories but also inspire millions of others on social media.
But ultimately, technology is just a tool; the experience remains the core. In the next decade, technology promises to continue changing the way we travel. From self-driving cars and drones to AI platforms that personalize journeys, everything is moving closer to a future where every trip becomes a unique masterpiece.
However, no matter how advanced technology becomes, it remains just a tool. The most fulfilling travel experience is still about connecting with the people, cultures, and nature around us. Let technology pave the way, but it is your feet and your heart that truly give meaning to each journey.
