Migrant workers place their trust in the ballot box.

The election day for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term is fast approaching. Along with resident voters in Ho Chi Minh City, migrant workers and laborers temporarily residing in Ho Chi Minh City are also eagerly awaiting election day to cast their ballots.

Post the list of candidates at the factory.

In recent days, at the end of their shifts, many workers at Pouyuen Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Tan Tao Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) have not rushed back to their rented rooms, but instead visited the area where the list and brief biographies of candidates for the 16th National Assembly, People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, and the voter list are posted at the factory to find out more information.

While reviewing the biographies of National Assembly candidates with her colleagues, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diem, a worker at the Pouyuen Vietnam Co., Ltd. garment factory, said that posting the voter and candidate lists right at the factory has created convenience for voters. “We often work overtime, so it’s difficult for us to go to the posting point near our residence to check the list. Having the list posted right in the factory makes it easier for workers to access the information and choose suitable candidates when voting,” Ms. Ngoc Diem shared.

Besides checking the posted list, many workers also used their phones to take pictures of the information. Tran Hoai Dung, a worker in the sole factory, said: “It’s hard to remember everything at once, so I took pictures to read more carefully at my rented room, to see who has commitments that suit the lives of workers. Thanks to that, when I go to vote, I can choose the right person to represent my voice.”

Mr. Cu Phat Nghiep, Chairman of the Trade Union of Pouyuen Vietnam Co., Ltd., said that the company currently has nearly 46,000 workers at its headquarters and satellite facilities. In recent days, the company has intensified election propaganda, posting information on candidates and voter lists in many locations throughout the factory, and organizing seminars to help workers understand the significance of the election. According to Mr. Nghiep, because the company does not work on Sundays, workers will have the opportunity to participate fully and in accordance with regulations on election day, March 15th.

In many businesses and factories in Ho Chi Minh City, election awareness campaigns are being conducted actively through various engaging and easily understandable methods, helping workers access information about the candidates.

Mr. Trinh Anh Tuan, Chairman of the Trade Union of Hai My Co., Ltd. (Binh Chuan Production Area, Thuan Giao Ward), informed that, in preparation for election day, the grassroots trade union has intensified propaganda efforts to 31 union branches through Zalo. “Due to the nature of shift-based production and flexible working hours, we chose to disseminate information via social media so that workers can easily access and review information at any time. In addition, trade union officials also directly discuss and answer questions from employees during breaks between shifts,” Mr. Tuan shared.

Going door-to-door to gather feedback from temporary residents.

In early March, as the election approached, 63-year-old Ms. Quach Thi Nguyet (residing in Khanh Hoi Ward, Ho Chi Minh City) was hesitant about whether to vote in Ho Chi Minh City (where she was temporarily residing) or return to her permanent residence in Can Tho City. At that time, the local police came to her house to gather opinions from Ms. Nguyet and four other family members temporarily residing in the ward regarding their polling locations. “After the ward officials came to our house to gather opinions, my family chose to vote at our temporary residence because we couldn’t return to our hometown at that time,” Ms. Nguyet said.

At numerous meetings on election preparations, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, Vo Van Minh, emphasized the need to regularly review the actual residential status of citizens in the area to ensure no voters are overlooked, especially in areas with large population fluctuations such as boarding houses, apartment buildings, industrial zones, and export processing zones.

To help migrant workers understand information about candidates, voting times, and procedures, many lodging areas have organized awareness campaigns and discussions about the candidates' biographies to keep workers informed. At a lodging area in Phu Hoa 9 neighborhood, Phu Loi ward, Ms. Vu Thanh Tra (from Lam Dong province) is following election information on her phone. Having lived in Binh Duong (now Ho Chi Minh City) for 10 years, having worked in various jobs, her family considers this place their second home.

Ms. Tra said that in the previous election, she voted in a different locality. After moving to a temporary residence more than a year ago, her family registered to vote at their new address. “I am interested in the action programs of the candidates, especially those related to social welfare, employment, and the lives of workers. Not only me, but also my husband and 24-year-old daughter are very aware of their rights and responsibilities as citizens,” Ms. Tra expressed.

Creating conditions for workers to participate in elections.

Ms. Nguyen Kim Loan, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor, said that the Ho Chi Minh City labor unions at all levels have closely coordinated with the government and businesses to implement many solutions to ensure that workers and laborers fully participate in the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and deputies to the People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.

In recent times, the Ho Chi Minh City Trade Union at all levels has intensified its efforts to disseminate information about the significance, rights, and obligations of elections through various means; at the same time, it has directed ward, commune, special zone trade unions and grassroots trade unions to encourage union members and workers to actively participate in the elections.

In addition, the Ho Chi Minh City Federation of Labor Unions requested that grassroots trade unions coordinate with businesses to arrange suitable times and create conditions for workers to participate in the election early and fully.
