"We'll just be happy if the road is reopened on time."
The Vung Ang - Bung expressway project, over 50km long, passes through the provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh . Initially, it was scheduled for completion by September 30th. However, adjacent sections such as Bai Vot - Ham Nghi, Ham Nghi - Vung Ang, and Bung - Van Ninh have been completed or are nearing completion. Therefore, the Ministry of Construction has requested a shortened timeline, aiming for completion by June 30th to ensure continuous connectivity for the first phase of the North-South expressway.
According to Project Management Board 6 ( Ministry of Construction ), the project's investor, the construction output along the entire route has reached over 85% to date. Contractors are maintaining a high construction pace, working continuously day and night to meet the deadline.
In Ky Hoa commune (Ky Anh town, Ha Tinh province), a sense of urgency pervades the construction site of Bridge No. 1 - one of the most important components of the Vung Ang - Bung expressway project. The bridge, nearly 1km long, spans a valley between two hills, with a total investment of 300 billion VND, comprising 22 spans, many of which are piers ranging from 30 to nearly 50 meters high.
The commander of Hoa Binh Construction Company 479 shared: "The project has a complex terrain and high technical requirements. To ensure progress, the team has to work three shifts continuously, even during holidays. To date, 16 out of 22 bridge spans have been completed, aiming for the road to be open in June. There can be no further delays."
The pace of work is also evident in the sections undertaken by Son Hai Group Co., Ltd. This contractor is completing the second layer of asphalt concrete (C19) for the 5km main route, while also focusing on the construction of the Deo But tunnel - a key component of the entire project, with a total investment of over 1,000 billion VND.
The Deo But Tunnel consists of two tubes: the left tunnel is 716m long, and the right tunnel is 840m long. To date, the right tunnel is 95% complete, including items such as concrete lining, lighting system, and fire protection system. Meanwhile, the left tunnel is currently being excavated and its roof reinforced; approximately 100,000m³ of earth and rock are expected to need to be excavated in the coming period.

Bridge No. 1, constructed by contractor 479 Hoa Binh, still has 6 spans that have not yet been launched and installed.
A sense of urgency is also present at the Tien Chau - Van Hoa intersection - the construction site that received the land latest along the route. Here, workers are working in shifts day and night to ensure the project stays on schedule. One worker shared: "We hardly have any time to rest properly, just moving from one shift to the next. Even when it rains, we don't dare stop for long for fear of affecting the schedule. Everyone is determined to do their best, just hoping the road will be open by June – that would be wonderful."
Mr. Nguyen Van Hung (from Nghe An province) said: "Every year I try to get a few days off to go home during this time, but this year I can't. The project is in its final stages, and everyone is prepared to work throughout the holiday. I miss home a lot, but work has to come first."

The Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon Expressway, spanning 88km, connects the provinces of Quang Ngai and Binh Dinh. With an investment of 20,400 billion VND, the project is managed by Project Management Board 2. The route includes three tunnels through mountains, with Tunnel No. 3, measuring 3,200m, being the longest road tunnel on the North-South Expressway to date.
On April 28th, the tunnel section of tunnel number 3 was officially completed, but the remaining items to be completed synchronously, opened to traffic, and put into operation in 2025 as directed by the Prime Minister require a great deal of effort from the investor and contractor, as there is not much time left in 2025.
To ensure that every task is completed, hundreds of workers remained on the construction site during the April 30th and May 1st holidays, working in "three shifts, four teams". On the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway construction site, contractors maintained dozens of construction teams, the project site was bustling with the sounds of equipment, and many contractors worked through the night with the determination to essentially complete the project in 2025.

The route includes three tunnels through the mountains, with tunnel number 3, measuring 3,200m, being the longest road tunnel on the North-South expressway to date.
Mr. Ngo Truong Nam, General Director of Deo Ca Group Joint Stock Company, said that taking care of meals, rest periods, and health check-ups for workers and engineers working on the Quang Ngai - Hoai Nhon expressway project is one of the important tasks on the construction site. To further ensure their health, the company also provides milk to improve nutrition and promote better health while working inside deep tunnels.
Worker Dang Manh Hung (Nghe An) shared: Putting aside the holiday, he and his teammates were determined to complete the project. The construction environment was difficult, with a lack of air due to working in the tunnel, but the contractor's care, from meals to health support, allowed the workers to work with peace of mind.

On the Huu Nghi - Chi Lang expressway construction site, taking advantage of the sunny weather, Deo Ca Group and its units are organizing 182 construction teams, mobilizing 2,000 personnel and more than 1,000 pieces of equipment. Similarly, on the Dong Dang - Tra Linh expressway construction site, the consortium of contractors led by Deo Ca Group has mobilized 216 construction teams, more than 2,200 personnel and more than 1,100 pieces of equipment to work throughout the holiday.
"Previously, Deo Ca Group proactively provided an additional 10% advance payment to contractors, supplementing 79 construction teams, 212 pieces of equipment, and 617 workers. Construction output to date has reached 23% of the contract value. We aim to complete phase 1 of the project in December 2025 and are ready to commence phase 2 on September 2nd," said Mr. Nguyen Duc Tuan, Deputy General Director of the project enterprise.
Racing against time, on the construction site of package XL01 of the North-South expressway section from Chi Thanh to Van Phong, more than 200 personnel and 76 pieces of equipment from Deo Ca were on duty throughout the holiday to increase production output.
Entering the final stage of the project, on the Chi Thanh - Van Phong section, Thang Long Corporation is also taking advantage of favorable weather conditions to complete its assigned tasks as soon as possible. The company has mobilized 5 construction teams with 120 personnel and over 70 pieces of equipment, working throughout holidays and weekends.
"Regarding the asphalt concrete section, Thang Long Corporation is focusing on mass paving, aiming to complete it by June 30, 2025, six months ahead of the contract signed with the investor (December 31, 2025) and two months ahead of the deadline for opening to traffic as requested by the Prime Minister (September 2, 2025)," a leader of Thang Long Corporation shared.
