Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company: Reaching the finish line ahead of schedule.

(Quang Ngai Newspaper) - Overcoming many difficulties and challenges, Binh Son Refining and Petrochemical Joint Stock Company ( BSR ), the unit managing and operating the Dung Quat Refinery, reached its 2024 plan target on November 18th, finishing 43 days ahead of schedule.

A proud achievement

According to BSR's leadership, amidst difficulties, especially in the third quarter and the first half of the fourth quarter of 2024, fluctuating crude oil prices led to narrowing profit margins in the refining industry, creating financial pressure for BSR. To maintain stable production and business operations, BSR developed and implemented a volatility management strategy, focusing on ensuring operational safety and flexibly adjusting production plans to suit market fluctuations. As a result, by 5 PM on November 18, 2024, the Dung Quat Refinery's production clock for all types of petroleum products had reached the 2024 plan target of over 5.727 million tons, achieving the target 43 days ahead of schedule.

In 2024, BSR carried out its 5th major maintenance overhaul at the Dung Quat Refinery, resulting in a production target of over 5.7 million tons, lower than previous years (averaging 6.4 - 6.7 million tons/year). Before the overhaul, the Dung Quat Refinery had at times operated at 118% capacity. After the successful overhaul, the refinery has consistently operated safely and stably at optimal capacity. As a result, it is projected that by the end of 2024, BSR will produce nearly 6.6 million tons of various products, exceeding the annual plan by 15%.

BSR General Director Bui Ngoc Duong shared that BSR's achievements in 2024 made a significant contribution to the province's economic growth. Not only the 2024 results, but also the contributions of the Dung Quat Refinery to the socio-economic development of Quang Ngai and the Central Coastal region have been recognized and highly appreciated by the Party, the State, and Quang Ngai province. Since its operation began, BSR has produced over 96.4 million tons of products; total revenue reached nearly 1.7 trillion VND; and contributed over 230 trillion VND to the state budget.

Optimize resources, master technology.

Director of Dung Quat Refinery, Cao Tuan Si, shared that over the past period, the entire staff and workers of BSR have strived to ensure the safe, stable, and efficient operation of the Dung Quat Refinery. Maintenance work is regularly organized by BSR, optimizing available resources, saving costs, and ensuring safe and stable operation of the plant. The application of science and technology solutions has been strengthened to improve labor productivity and the safety and reliability of equipment operation. From the beginning of the year to September 2024, BSR implemented 217 improvement solutions, generating $340 million (8.2 trillion VND) in revenue. Safety, especially technological safety in production activities, is always a priority for BSR and is strictly implemented. The company has also been flexible and optimized in adjusting processing capacity and product structure according to market demand, contributing to ensuring national energy security and guaranteeing the business efficiency of the enterprise.

Along with intensifying the search for and processing of new types of oil, especially imported oil, to enhance the flexibility of the Dung Quat Refinery, BSR has researched the processing of VGO/Residue (intermediate component) to ensure the capacity of the RFCC unit in the case of processing oil with low residue. Testing and putting into use new types of catalysts and additives aims to increase competitiveness and optimize production.

Over the first 11 months of 2024, BSR successfully completed its tasks... producing and selling over 40,000 cubic meters of specialized fuels, including Jet K and DO-L62. From now until the end of 2024, BSR will continue to produce and sell an additional 17,000 cubic meters of specialized fuels. In addition, BSR has successfully researched and implemented measures to increase the production of high-value products such as ADO, Jet-A1, PP, and increased the ratio of Mogas 95/Mogas 92 gasoline from the initial design of 40%/60% to over 70%/30%.
