On May 6th, the City Statistics Department announced that the consumer price index (CPI) in the city in April 2025 increased by 0.02% compared to the previous month and by 2.23% compared to the same period in 2024. The average CPI for the first four months of 2025 increased by 2.83% compared to the same period in 2024. Of the 0.02% increase in the April CPI, 8 out of 11 groups of goods and services saw price increases; 2 out of 11 groups saw price decreases; and 1 out of 11 groups remained unchanged compared to the previous month.
Groups showing increases compared to the previous month include: housing and construction materials (up 0.73%); other goods and services (up 0.44%); postal and telecommunications services (up 0.22%); clothing, footwear and headwear (up 0.2%); culture, entertainment and tourism (up 0.19%); household equipment and appliances (up 0.13%); beverages and tobacco (up 0.04%); and medicines and medical services (up 0.01%).
Groups showing a decrease compared to the previous month include: transportation (down 1.18%); and food and beverage services (down 0.17%). The education group remained unchanged. Increased demand for construction materials, electrical equipment, public transportation, and tourism were the main reasons for the 0.02% increase in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in April compared to the previous month.
