Focus on sustainable forest development.

Currently, Thai Nguyen province has over 557,000 hectares of forest, with a forest cover rate of 62.35%, placing it among the provinces with the highest forest cover in the country. This is a significant advantage for the development of the forestry economy , while also placing high demands on forest management and protection in the context of climate change and increasing resource demand.

In 2026, the Forestry Department of Thai Nguyen province has identified its key task as maintaining the existing forest area while improving the quality and economic value of the forests. According to the plan, the entire province aims to plant 7,500 hectares of concentrated forest, plant 1.5 million scattered trees, and maintain a forest cover rate of 60% or higher. Along with this, the target for timber harvesting from planted forests is approximately 745,000 m³, contributing to the supply of raw materials for the timber processing industry and enhancing the economic value of the forests.

One of the key directions for the forestry sector in the coming period is to promote sustainable forest management and expand the area of certified forests. This is considered an important solution to enhance the value of forest products, meet the requirements of domestic and international markets, and contribute to the development of the forestry sector in a modern and sustainable direction.

Alongside forest development, forest protection continues to be identified as a key task for the Forest Ranger force. In 2026, the Forest Ranger sector will strengthen patrols and inspections in key forest areas, border areas, and areas at risk of forestry violations.

Forest fire prevention and control are also given top priority, especially in the context of increasingly complex weather patterns due to the impact of climate change. Forest protection units will proactively develop fire prevention plans, deploy personnel on duty, prepare equipment, and coordinate closely with local authorities to promptly handle forest fire situations and minimize damage.

In addition, the inspection and monitoring of projects involving the conversion of forest land to other uses will be carried out strictly, ensuring compliance with forestry laws and regulations and preventing any impact on natural forest areas.

Promoting digital transformation in forestry management.

One of the key tasks of the Forestry sector in 2026 is to continue promoting the application of information technology and digital transformation in forest management. Software systems for monitoring forest changes, warning of forest fires, managing wildlife breeding facilities, and digital forestry maps will be effectively utilized to enhance the capacity for monitoring forest resources.

According to Mr. Le Cam Long, Head of the Forest Protection Department of Thai Nguyen province, the Forest Protection sector will focus on implementing a comprehensive range of solutions to improve the effectiveness of forest management, protection, and development.

Mr. Long added: In 2026, the Forest Protection Force will continue to strengthen patrols, inspections, and strictly handle violations of forestry laws; while also promoting the application of digital technology in monitoring forest changes, warning of forest fires, and managing forest resources. The Forest Protection Department will also closely coordinate with local authorities, functional forces, and the community to improve the effectiveness of forest protection, contributing to maintaining forest cover and developing sustainable forestry.

Along with professional solutions, the Forestry sector continues to promote awareness and encourage people to participate in forest protection. The implementation of forest protection contracts, support for buffer zone communities, and development of forest-based livelihoods will contribute to raising people's awareness and responsibility towards forest resources.

In the context of climate change and the increasing demands for sustainable development, forests are not only an economic resource but also a crucial "ecological shield" for the environment. With specific tasks and solutions for 2026, the Forest Protection Force of Thai Nguyen province will continue to play a core role in managing, protecting, and developing forests, contributing to maintaining the greenness of the forests and promoting sustainable forestry economic development in the province.
