Didier Deschamps's team entered the match in New York as the clear favorites, thanks to their impressive run of form since the group stage. The Nordic representatives, led by Graham Potter, were considered the underdogs, having only narrowly made it to the knockout round. Nevertheless, the opening minutes saw Sweden play confidently, controlling possession and trying to put pressure on their opponents.
Alexander Isak had the first scoring opportunity after a pass from Viktor Gyokeres, but goalkeeper Mike Maignan comfortably saved the ball. The "Gallic Roosters" quickly regained control of the game and began to organize sharp attacks down both flanks.
Kylian Mbappe put the ball into the net in the 20th minute, but the linesman raised the flag for offside in a controversial situation. The pressure from the reigning World Cup runners-up increased as opportunities arose one after another. Mbappe, then Michael Olise, left fans disappointed as their shots hit the post of the Swedish goal.
The turning point came in the final minute of the first half from a perfectly executed short corner kick. Receiving the decisive pass from Ousmane Dembele , Mbappe demonstrated his superior class with a skillful move inside the penalty area before unleashing a powerful shot to break the deadlock.

After the break, the French players continued to maintain their dominance proactively. In the 53rd minute, following a ball recovery effort by Aurelien Tchouameni, Olise delivered a sublime assist that tore through the opposing defense. Bradley Barcola broke free and coolly finished to double France's lead.
The Nordic representatives tried to push forward in search of a goal to reduce the deficit but struggled against a disciplined defense. Gaps in the back were constantly exposed, allowing France's speedy attacking stars to exploit them.
In the 74th minute, Olise continued his role as an assist provider with a sharp through pass, allowing Mbappe to break the offside trap. The number 10 striker didn't miss the golden opportunity, unleashing a skillful curling shot to seal the 3-0 victory. This goal propelled the 1998-born forward to the top of the goalscoring charts, alongside Lionel Messi, at the biggest football tournament on the planet.
In the final minutes of the match, Sweden had a chance to score a consolation goal, but Gyokeres couldn't beat Maignan's excellent save. The convincing victory propelled Didier Deschamps' team into the round of 16 to face Paraguay.
