Martinez suffered an injury just before the match against Everton. |
According to confirmation from within the team, the Argentinian player suffered an injury during the final training session before the match and did not recover in time. This is considered a major blow for MU as they are fiercely competing for a top-four spot in the Premier League.
Martinez's absence forced manager Michael Carrick to field Leny Yoro alongside Harry Maguire in the clash against Everton. The duo played solidly, helping the Red Devils keep a clean sheet away from home and secure a narrow 1-0 victory.
Nevertheless, Martinez's injury continues to worry Manchester United fans. The 1998-born center-back is only expected to return to playing in December 2025 after an eight-month layoff due to a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL).
Martinez's return brought considerable stability to the Red Devils' defense. He and Harry Maguire formed a solid central defensive partnership, helping MU extend their unbeaten run to five matches before the clash with Everton.
Martinez is expected to be out for about two weeks. His availability for the away match against Newcastle on March 4th remains uncertain. If Martinez is still not fit to return, manager Carrick may use Yoro or Matthijs de Ligt to partner Maguire.
The victory against Everton helped MU consolidate their position in the top 4 of the Premier League with 48 points, 3 points ahead of Chelsea, who are in fifth place.
