Voters worry about the epidemic situation during and after Tet

Báo Đại Đoàn KếtBáo Đại Đoàn Kết07/02/2025

Voters continue to express concerns about food poisoning, the disease situation during and after Tet (Lunar New Year), and safety issues when organizing traditional spring festivals and local festivals.

On February 7th, the Standing Committee of the National Assembly reviewed the National Assembly's report on citizen petitions for January 2025. Reporting at the session, Mr. Duong Thanh Binh, Head of the Citizen Petition Committee under the Standing Committee of the National Assembly, stated that voters and the public were interested in the discussions and opinions on five issues discussed at the 13th Central Committee Meeting of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Two groups of issues of particular interest to voters were: summarizing Resolution 18 of the Central Committee on reforming and streamlining the organizational structure of the political system for efficient and effective operation; and the proposal to supplement the GDP growth target for 2025 with a target of 8% or more and double-digit growth in the 2026-2030 period.

Voters and the public highly appreciate the sense of responsibility of the traffic police force in ensuring traffic safety and order. The functional forces worked throughout the Tet holiday, day and night, handling violations without exception or any forbidden areas, increasing awareness of compliance with road traffic safety laws. The rate of traffic accidents and the number of violations of regulations on alcohol concentration during the 9-day Tet holiday of the Year of the Snake 2025 decreased compared to the same period last year. However, some serious road traffic accidents still occurred, requiring attention and solutions from relevant authorities in the future.

However, voters and the public continue to be concerned about food poisoning; continued workplace safety issues; several forest fires and house fires causing significant property damage; the disease situation during and after Tet; and safety issues when organizing traditional spring festivals and local festivals.

There are still 136 petitions submitted before the 8th Session that have not been resolved or answered.

Regarding the results of receiving and processing petitions from voters and the public, Mr. Binh said that, based on the report on voter outreach after the 8th Session, the People's Petition Committee compiled 736 petitions from voters. After reviewing and classifying them, the People's Petition Committee promptly forwarded these petitions to the competent authorities for resolution in accordance with the law. The People's Petition Committee will monitor and urge the relevant agencies to resolve and respond to the voters' petitions within the specified timeframe.

Regarding the resolution and responses from competent authorities, according to Mr. Binh, in January, the People's Petition Committee received an additional 675 written responses to voter petitions submitted before the 8th Session. Thus, to date, the People's Petition Committee has received 1,161 out of 1,297 written responses to voter petitions submitted before the 8th Session.

Through a review, compilation, and preliminary assessment of the results of resolving and responding to voters' petitions by competent authorities, the People's Petition Committee found that, in general, the agencies have made efforts and actively addressed and responded to voters' petitions. However, to date, 136 petitions submitted before the 8th Session of the National Assembly remain unresolved and unanswered. To ensure that these petitions are resolved and answered, the People's Petition Committee has issued a letter urging several ministries and agencies to provide full responses to these petitions.

Complaints, denunciations, petitions, and feedback are on the rise.

Regarding the situation of complaints and denunciations, Mr. Binh reported that in January, the number of citizens filing complaints, denunciations, petitions, and feedback showed an upward trend compared to December 2024. At the Central Citizen Reception Offices in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, agencies received 420 visits from 1,096 citizens filing complaints, denunciations, petitions, and feedback on 420 cases, including 33 visits from large groups of people, of which 4 cases involved newly arising large-scale disputes requiring thorough consideration and resolution by competent authorities. Compared to December 2024, there was an increase of 51 citizens and 53 cases, while the number of large-scale groups decreased by 6.

According to consolidated reports from localities, in January, cases related to: land issues, especially compensation, support, and resettlement when the State reclaims land; natural resources, environment; and labor and employment continued to be complex; among them, eight cases of complaints with signs of security and order complexities stand out and need to be considered and resolved definitively by competent authorities in the near future.

Regarding the National Assembly 's citizen reception work, Mr. Binh said that the agencies had received 107 visits from people filing complaints, denunciations, petitions, and feedback on 107 cases, including one visit from a large group. Through these citizen receptions, documents were issued to forward citizens' petitions to the competent authorities for resolution in 9 cases; written guidance was provided in 16 cases; and citizens were explained, guided, and persuaded to comply with the law in 82 cases.

After reviewing the 87 eligible petitions, 19 were forwarded to the competent authorities for resolution, 68 are currently under review, and 29 responses have been received from the competent authorities.
