A young person's weekend

On weekends, when the work routine slows down, young people in Dong Nai choose different ways to enjoy themselves. Some prefer to stay in their rented rooms to rest and recharge after a busy week. Meanwhile, many others seek out cafes, gatherings, or sports activities to relieve stress.

These diverse choices clearly reflect the lifestyle and need for balance among young people today.

"Recharge" your energy.

Observations show that for many young people living and working in Dong Nai, weekends are no longer a time for going out or socializing as before, but have become an opportunity to rest and "stay put" in their rooms after a stressful week of work. Especially for factory workers, office workers, or migrant workers, choosing to stay in their rented rooms is seen as the simplest and most economical way to recharge.

As a province with a developed industrial sector, numerous large industrial zones, and a concentration of universities and colleges, Dong Nai attracts a large workforce and students from many provinces and cities to study and work. Therefore, the number of young people renting accommodation in the area is quite large. In the context of increasing work and study pressures and rising living costs, the trend of spending weekends relaxing in rented rooms has become popular.

In areas with a high concentration of migrant workers, such as Trang Bom commune, Long Thanh commune, or central wards like Bien Hoa and Tran Bien, it's not uncommon to see many young people spending their entire weekends in the cramped space of their rented rooms. They catch up on sleep, browse their phones, watch movies, or simply rest after days of continuous work.

Nguyen Hoang Nam (23 years old, a worker at Bien Hoa Industrial Park) shared: “My work schedule is almost completely full with overtime shifts every week, so by the weekend I just want to sleep as much as possible. Sometimes I don't leave my room all day, just eat simple meals and rest to regain my strength for the next week.”

Similarly, Ms. Tran Thi Hong Hanh (25 years old, a sales employee in Tam Hiep ward) said that the cost of living is also a reason why many young people limit going out: "Going out for coffee or eating out is expensive, so sometimes I choose to stay home, cook, and watch movies. That way, I save money and have more time to rest."

Beyond work pressure and expenses, some young people believe that "staying put" helps them rebalance their lives. After days of interacting with many people and working in a noisy environment, having some private time in their room helps them feel more relaxed.

Mr. Le Nguyen Nhat Thong (26 years old, working in Tam Phuoc ward) shared: “On weekends, I don't want to go anywhere; I just want to stay home, listen to music, clean the house, and rest. For me, that's enough to recharge my energy.”

However, spending too much time in small spaces also leads many young people to become sedentary and have unbalanced lifestyles. Nevertheless, given work pressure, income, and current living conditions, choosing to relax in their rooms on days off remains a popular trend among a segment of young people, as a way to adapt to the urban pace of life.

Balance rest and exercise on the weekend.

Besides the trend of staying home, many believe that young people need to proactively balance rest and exercise to maintain physical and mental health. Spending time participating in outdoor activities, sports , or socializing with friends not only helps relieve stress but also creates positive energy for the new work week.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thu, a badminton coach at Tien Minh Badminton Court (Trang Dai Ward), said: "Recently, the number of young people participating in weekend training has been increasing. Many young people, after a stressful week of work, choose to go to the sports court as a way to relax. Just light exercise, playing badminton for about 1-2 hours, makes them feel much more relaxed, sleep better, and work more efficiently."

Ms. Nguyen Phuong Linh (from Bien Hoa ward) said: "Previously, I used to stay home all day, but later I found it easy to get bored, so on weekends I invite friends to play badminton or have coffee. Going out to play sports or meet friends, have breakfast, or have coffee and chat makes my mind feel lighter and happier."

From a management perspective, authorities are also gradually encouraging the development of community spaces, sports fields, and public playgrounds to provide people, especially young people, with more healthy options on weekends. Organizing cultural and sports activities and local movements also contributes to attracting young people to participate and increasing community connectivity.

In recent times, Dong Nai province has organized many community sports activities to encourage people, especially young people, to increase physical activity and improve their health. These events not only contribute to improving physical fitness but also create a healthy playground, giving young people more options for weekends instead of staying in their rented rooms. This helps to form a habit of regular exercise and balance between work and personal life.

Furthermore, promoting awareness of healthy lifestyles and a balance between work and rest is also emphasized. Experts recommend that instead of spending the entire weekend indoors, young people should maintain appropriate exercise habits and engage with the outdoors to improve their health and well-being.

As we can see, each young person enjoys their weekend differently. However, choosing a balanced combination of rest and exercise will help improve the quality of life and contribute to building a more positive and active lifestyle in the bustling urban environment.
