Accordingly, after dinner on January 8th, Ms. NTT (residing in Nhon Trach commune, Dong Nai province) felt nauseous and unwell, as if she had food poisoning. To vomit, she poked a toothbrush into her throat but accidentally swallowed it.
Immediately, family members took Ms. T. to Dong Nai General Hospital for emergency treatment.
Endoscopic images revealed the toothbrush lodged lengthwise in the patient's esophagus. Fortunately, the patient was brought to the hospital early, preventing esophageal bleeding.
Doctors performed an emergency endoscopy to remove the foreign object and confirmed that this was a rare case of foreign body ingestion in a normal, conscious person.
Doctors advise that if a foreign object is accidentally swallowed while eating, patients should go to a qualified medical facility for endoscopic removal to safely eliminate the object. They should avoid using tools to push the object down themselves, as this could puncture or cause bleeding in the digestive tract, posing a life-threatening risk.
