The issue has been resolved by the relevant unit.

As reported by Giao Thong Newspaper: "Tien Lang District ( Hai Phong ): Businesses collect money but leave 'mountains' of garbage," the Kien Thiet commune landfill, covering approximately 1 hectare, currently has about 10,000 cubic meters of garbage weighing over 5,000 tons.

The large amount of accumulated waste over a long period of time decomposes and emits foul odors, seriously affecting the environment and the lives of people in the surrounding area.

The amount of waste accumulating at Thanh Vinh Company's landfill is higher than the roof of the waste treatment plant, causing public outrage.

The reason for this situation is that the waste processing line of Thanh Vinh Trade and Tourism Joint Stock Company (the unit responsible for collecting and processing waste here) has been malfunctioning since the beginning of 2023, and has therefore ceased operation.

Since then, all collected waste has only been composted using microorganisms, leading to the massive accumulation of waste as described above. Meanwhile, Thanh Vinh Trading and Tourism Joint Stock Company (Thanh Vinh Company) continues to collect waste disposal fees from households in the area.

At a meeting at the end of July 2024, Mr. Nguyen Van Tung, Chairman of the People's Committee of Hai Phong City, requested the termination of the contract with Thanh Vinh Company and instructed Tien Lang district to study measures to handle the accumulated waste at the Kien Thiet commune landfill, as well as select another unit with sufficient capacity in 2024.

Following the directives of the Hai Phong City People's Committee, the Tien Lang District People's Committee instructed the Kien Thiet Commune People's Committee to terminate the contract with Thanh Vinh Company; issued a notice to cease waste treatment operations, and required the company to move all personnel and waste sorting technology lines out of the Kien Thiet commune landfill before October 14, 2024.

An estimated 10,000 cubic meters of waste have accumulated over several months without being processed, causing serious environmental pollution in the area.

To definitively resolve the issues at the Kien Thiet landfill, the District People's Committee has agreed to allow Hai Phong Environmental Services Co., Ltd. to invest its own funds to support the local authorities in processing the accumulated waste at the Kien Thiet landfill by sorting and separating each type of waste and treating them separately according to the physical properties of each basic component.

Regarding the local government's request to compensate for the costs incurred in constructing the new waste treatment area and to return the land to Thanh Vinh Company, the Tien Lang District People's Committee affirmed that the local government temporarily allocated (lent) the land to the enterprise for testing waste treatment.

Therefore, there is no basis or grounds for compensating or assisting Thanh Vinh Company. The company must relocate its assets and machinery and hand over the land back to the local authorities.

At the same time, based on calculations and legal regulations, the district will require Thanh Vinh Company to refund the money collected from households over the years for collecting waste at the landfill without processing it. This funding will be used by the local authorities to support the processing of the accumulated waste at the Kien Thiet commune landfill.
