
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Phi Long, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; Mr. Pham Tat Thang, Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department; Mr. Nguyen Dinh Khang, Minister of Ethnic Minorities and Religion, along with representatives from departments and agencies of Hanoi city.
Representing the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) were Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu, Standing Member of the Council of Elders, Standing Vice President of the Executive Council of the VBS, along with other venerable members of the Standing Committee of the Executive Board.
The theme of this year's Buddha's Birthday celebration is: "Spreading Compassion." At the ceremony, Venerable Thich Thanh Nhieu read the message from the Supreme Patriarch of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Venerable Thich Tri Quang, addressed to monks, nuns, and Buddhists in Vietnam and abroad on the occasion of Buddha's Birthday, Buddhist Calendar 2570. The message emphasized that this is a special event, not only commemorating the birth of Shakyamuni Buddha, but also an opportunity for each Buddhist to reflect and better understand the profound lessons from the life of the Buddha and his practical teachings.
“In 2026, Vietnam enters a new phase after the reorganization of administrative boundaries, the consolidation of personnel, and the amendment and adoption of several laws, with the determination to strive for development. Looking back at history and the teachings of the Buddha through the Cakkavatti Sīhanāda Sutta (Long Discourses), we believe that when all policies are based on the people and for their benefit, there will be harmony, consensus, and unity, and success will certainly be achieved,” the message stated.

Venerable Thich Bao Nghiem - Vice Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, Head of the Central Propagation Committee, and Head of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in Hanoi City - read the Buddha's Birthday address for the year 2570 Buddhist Era - 2026 AD, delivered by the Venerable Thich Thien Nhon, Vice Dharma Chief of the Council of Elders, and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha.
The speech affirmed that, having accompanied the nation for thousands of years, Vietnamese Buddhism has always been integrated into the historical flow of the country, taking the spirit of protecting the nation and ensuring the well-being of the people, and engaging with the world to save lives as its ideal of service.

Against the backdrop of a nation facing new opportunities, this year the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha celebrates its 45th anniversary with the message "Buddhism develops alongside the nation as it enters an era of national progress." The Executive Boards of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha in provinces and cities are organizing their Buddhist Congresses for the 2026-2031 term, leading up to the 10th National Buddhist Congress, which will take place on November 6-7, 2026, under the motto "Discipline – Innovation – Effectiveness – Efficiency." This is not only a message of faith and aspiration for national development, but also a vow to continue the tradition of engaged Buddhism in Vietnam in the new era.
On this occasion, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha calls upon all monks, nuns, and Buddhists nationwide to continue upholding the patriotic tradition, living "a good life and a beautiful faith," actively participating in building national unity; accompanying the Party and State in the development of the economy, society, culture, environmental protection, digital transformation, social welfare, caring for the people's lives, and safeguarding the sacred sovereignty of the Fatherland.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Phi Long, Vice Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, extended his warm greetings and best wishes to the Venerable Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns, lay Buddhists, and all Buddhist followers. He acknowledged and praised the important contributions of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha and Buddhist followers to the overall development achievements of the country.


He emphasized that the Vietnam Fatherland Front hopes and believes that the Venerable members of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha will continue to uphold the tradition of patriotism, the spirit of active engagement with the world, and the motto "Buddhism - Nation - Socialism"; continue to encourage monks, nuns, and Buddhists to live "a good life and a beautiful faith," to walk alongside the nation, and to contribute even more to the cause of building and protecting the Fatherland in the new era. At the same time, it expects the Sangha to continue to play a role in people-to-people diplomacy and international Buddhist exchanges, contributing to promoting the image of Vietnam and its people as peace-loving, compassionate, and rich in cultural traditions to Buddhist communities in other countries and international friends.

Following that, the venerable religious dignitaries of the Executive Board of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha solemnly performed the ceremony of chanting the Buddha's birthday sutra and the traditional ritual of bathing the Buddha.
