Ensuring vegetable supply during Tet holiday.

(HTV) - In order to meet the increased consumer demand during Tet (Lunar New Year), many vegetable production cooperatives in Ho Chi Minh City have proactively expanded their cultivated area, increased production, and developed plans to stabilize prices and ensure a stable supply for the market.

At the GAP Clean Vegetable Cooperative (RASAFOOD) in Dong Thanh commune, Ho Chi Minh City, the unit is currently using 3 hectares of land to grow leafy vegetables, an increase of 1 hectare compared to normal days. As a result, the amount of vegetables supplied to the market reaches approximately 3 tons per month, an increase of about 1 ton to meet year-end demand.

According to Mr. Mai Van Khanh, Director of the GAP Clean Vegetable Cooperative (RASAFOOD), the cooperative is currently growing and supplying five types of vegetables that meet VietGAP standards, including bok choy which has received OCOP 3-star certification. The projected increase in vegetable production is 10-20% during the peak Tet holiday season. In addition, the cooperative is also offering safe vegetable food combos as gifts.

The high demand for vegetables in Ho Chi Minh City during Tet (Lunar New Year) also poses a risk of price fluctuations. However, vegetable cooperatives in the city have proactively developed production plans and established distribution channels early on to ensure a stable supply and maintain reasonable prices.

With proactive management from production to consumption, vegetables from cooperatives not only contribute to stabilizing the market during Tet but also help increase farmers' income.

At Tuan Ngoc Cooperative in Long Truong ward, the unit is committed to not increasing selling prices during Tet (Lunar New Year), and will even implement promotional programs to support consumers. According to the plan, the cooperative will focus on increasing the production of key vegetables such as water spinach and mustard greens; and will also link with growing areas in Binh Thuan to supplement supply, contributing to price stabilization before, during, and after Tet.

Currently, Ho Chi Minh City only meets about 40% of its residents' vegetable needs. Through socio -economic development cooperation programs, connecting supply and demand, and building safe agricultural product supply chains, the city has signed many agreements with other provinces to consume agricultural products, helping to ensure a stable and smooth supply of clean vegetables to the market.

Mr. Vo Thanh Giau, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Agriculture and Environment, said: “Besides local production sources, the Department of Agriculture and the Department of Industry and Trade have advised the city to prepare additional supply sources from linked provinces. Supply chains with Lam Dong and the Mekong Delta region are being implemented to ensure sufficient quantity and quality.”

With proactive management from production to consumption, vegetables from cooperatives not only contribute to stabilizing the market during Tet but also help increase farmers' income and promote sustainable urban agricultural development.
