According to Xinhua, this move comes after US President Donald Trump declared on the social media platform Truth Social that the US would attack Iran more forcefully if it did not immediately rein in its proxy forces in Lebanon.
In response to the threat, the head of the Iranian negotiating delegation and Speaker of Parliament , Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, affirmed that the Iranian armed forces are ready to retaliate. According to the Tasnim news agency, the negotiation process has now been suspended.
Earlier, on June 21, the two countries launched the first round of negotiations to realize the recently signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), aimed at ending the nearly four-month-long conflict in the Middle East.
The focus of the meeting was the implementation of Article 13 of the MoU, which sets out the preconditions for a comprehensive agreement, including: ending the full-scale war, lifting the US naval blockade, reopening the Strait of Hormuz, restoring oil exports, and releasing frozen Iranian assets.
