Strong earthquake in Caracas

A powerful 7.1 magnitude earthquake struck Venezuela's capital, Caracas, on Wednesday, damaging several high-rise buildings.

According to the U.S. National Geological Survey, the earthquake in this Latin American country measured 7.1 on the Richter scale. Its estimated depth was 10 km.

The agency warned of the risk of a tsunami. A reporter from the RIA Novosti news agency reported that a 6.9 magnitude earthquake was also recorded in northeastern Japan . The tremors were clearly felt in Tokyo.
