The New York Times reported on June 9, citing several sources, that US-Iran negotiations had narrowed down to four key nuclear issues. Accordingly, Washington proposed that Tehran suspend uranium enrichment for at least 15 years, cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in handling its enriched uranium stockpile, dismantle three major nuclear facilities at Natanz, Fordo, and Isfahan, and accept international inspections at any time and at any location in Iran.
Currently, negotiations remain focused on finalizing a framework memorandum of understanding between the two countries.
Earlier that day, US President Donald Trump suggested that a peace deal with Iran could be signed within two or three days. According to the New York Times, it remains unclear whether the recent downing of a US AH-64 Apache helicopter over the Strait of Hormuz could further complicate negotiations. President Trump claimed the helicopter was shot down by Iran and warned of a possible response.

The U.S. Central Command announced on the same day that the military was investigating the downing of a U.S. Army AH-64 Apache helicopter, and stated that the pilots survived and were rescued within approximately two hours.
The US launched a new offensive against Iran following this incident. The US Central Command stated that the operation was launched and completed on June 9th, targeting Iranian air defense systems, surveillance radars, and ground control stations in the area near the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps confirmed it carried out a drone attack on the US Fifth Fleet in Bahrain in retaliation for recent US attacks. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi signaled that the incident involving a US military helicopter may not have been a deliberate act by Iran, while warning Washington of potential escalation and urging foreign forces to leave the region to avoid security risks.
