In Quang Ninh, a pod of five dolphins arrived in the waters about 3 km from Co To Island to hunt for food; this is the second pod to visit this area in 10 days.

At approximately 3:45 PM, Khuất Anh Tuấn, from Cô Tô island district, was fishing near Chuột islet, 3 km from the main Cô Tô island, when he spotted five dolphins chasing a school of small fish. The gray dolphins surfaced several times within 5 minutes before disappearing.

At noon on January 20th, Mr. Tuan also saw a large school of nearly 30 dolphins appear at Phai islet, about 3 km from the coast of Co To town. "Dolphins used to occasionally appear in the Co To sea area, but not as many as now," Mr. Tuan said.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hai Linh, Head of the Culture, Information and Tourism Department of Co To island district, the improved marine environment has led to the return of some rare animals such as turtles, hawksbill turtles, dolphins, and whales.

Since September 2023, Co To district has been promoting and encouraging tourists and residents to avoid using nylon bags and single-use plastic items. A year later, the district issued a regulation prohibiting tourists from bringing single-use plastic items to the islands.
