Anchovy fishing in Phu Yen

Việt NamViệt Nam22/08/2024

From mid-April to August each year is the anchovy fishing season for fishermen in Phu Yen , with the most catches occurring in the Hon Yen area. The fishermen's anchovy catches not only provide income for their families but also create unique and beautiful scenes on the coastal waters of Hon Yen in Tuy An district, Phu Yen province.

Vietnam.vn presents the photo series "Anchovy Fishing in Phu Yen" by author Do Thanh Nam, taken in Phu Yen. The series was submitted by the author to the "Happy Vietnam" Photo and Video Contest, organized by the Ministry of Information and Communications .

The anchovy fishing season in the coastal area of Hon Yen starts from April to August. Each fishing boat has 10-13 fishermen. They work together to cast and retrieve their nets.

Because of this unexpected and unique beauty, the most beautiful and captivating thing about Hon Yen these days is not the beach or the mountains, but the incredibly graceful "dance" of the fishermen casting their nets to hunt for anchovies. These dances are observed and described even more vividly and uniquely through the perspective of a drone.

Under the nimble, skilled hands of fishermen who have spent their lives at sea, the nets constantly change shape, forming different forms and creating unique images. The emerald-green waters around Hon Yen Island further enhance the distinctiveness of this sea area during the anchovy seine fishing season.

For the fishermen, they come here to share the same nights and nights, hoping to witness and capture the most vivid, meaningful, and beautiful moments of the fishing nets on the vast ocean. Especially when viewed from above, the green nets, made of rough, stiff nylon threads on land, become soft and undulating like silk ribbons when the fishermen cast them out into the sea. The entire fishing ground resembles an art stage with a variety of beautiful shapes and colors, and the fishermen are the dancers, performing skillfully with their nets cast and retrieved with great artistry.

For fishermen, casting their nets to catch anchovies is a way of entrusting their hopes to a bountiful haul. In recent years, however, each cast of the nets has also carried the eager anticipation of photographers and photography enthusiasts from all over the country.
