For Phong Nha - Ke Bang National Park, this is the third time it has been recognized internationally by UNESCO, following its previous designation as a World Natural Heritage Site in 2003 and 2015. UNESCO's recognition as a World Biosphere Reserve marks a significant milestone for Quang Tri province in particular and Vietnam in general; it demonstrates the international community's acknowledgment of Vietnam's persistent efforts in nature conservation, biodiversity preservation, and sustainable development.

This also serves as an impetus for the locality to continue improving the effectiveness of managing and protecting natural resources, linking conservation with community livelihoods and sustainable tourism development. The new title will create more opportunities for the locality to strengthen the promotion of natural conservation values to boost sustainable tourism development models and improve the lives of people in buffer and transition zones.

This approach helps local people become direct beneficiaries of conservation efforts, rather than merely recipients, contributing to strengthening regional linkages and promoting East-West economic development in Quang Tri province in the future; while also enhancing the locality's position on the world tourism and nature conservation map, aiming for green growth and sustainable development.

Phong Nha - Ke Bang has a new opportunity to be recognized by UNESCO.
Phong Nha - Ke Bang has a new opportunity to be recognized by UNESCO.If the Phong Nha - Ke Bang nomination dossier is recognized as a World Biosphere Reserve, it will be a significant milestone in expanding tourism development opportunities for the locality.

The recognition of Phong Nha - Ke Bang by UNESCO is not only a source of pride but also a great responsibility for the government and people in managing, preserving, and sustainably developing the area. According to UNESCO's recommendations, Vietnam's 12th Biosphere Reserve must maintain its standards and develop it into a model of harmonious development between humans and nature.

With a total area of 515,830 hectares, spread across 15 communes, including the core zone, buffer zone, and transition zone; possessing a typical Southeast Asian primary tropical forest ecosystem on limestone (karst), with thousands of plant and animal species, many of which are rare and endemic and require priority conservation. The unique cave system, with over 500 discovered caves, holds global value in terms of geology, geomorphology, and natural landscape, making UNESCO's recommendations far from simple.

However, honor comes with responsibility. The issue is not just about the title, but about the survival of a unique heritage. Clearly, the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park Management Board and Quang Tri province will continue monitoring, conducting scientific research, protecting biodiversity and karst ecosystems; maintaining management of the core, buffer, and transition zones; and coordinating with local communities in conservation and ecotourism development. At the same time, they will open up opportunities for international cooperation, learning from the experiences of other biosphere reserves, exchanging scientific data, and enhancing capacity in managing and protecting biodiversity, developing livelihoods, and promoting tourism internationally.

This also lays the path for Phong Nha - Ke Bang to continue being an international highlight, a prime example of the harmony between nature conservation, green economic development, and sustainable tourism in Vietnam.
