Surrounded on all sides by rivers, Dong Binh emerges as a "green oasis" amidst three waterways. It retains a rare tranquility with tree-lined village roads, sprawling green fields, and the slow pace of life typical of a riverside rural area. Furthermore, Dong Binh preserves cultural values closely linked to river life and traditional crafts.
The mat weaving craft is still maintained by many households as a part of the village's memory. Ms. Vo Thi Ngoc, who has been involved in the craft for over 40 years, shared: "My mother was a small trader in the area, and I grew up following her around, selling mats. Weaving mats is very hard work, but we still try our best to preserve the craft."
Visitors to Dong Binh can participate in the mat-making process, from splitting reeds and dyeing to trying their hand at weaving the first clumsy stitches. These simple experiences create a natural connection between tourists and the local people. Dong Binh is also attractive for its eco-friendly experiences such as rowing boats on the river, fishing, or enjoying a traditional meal with dishes like banh xeo (Vietnamese savory pancake), Quang noodles, and freshwater fish.

Thanks to its location on the Hoi An - My Son tourist route, Dong Binh is becoming more well-known. Groups of tourists exploring the countryside by electric vehicle or bicycle have brought positive signals for community tourism here. Despite possessing many advantages, Dong Binh has not yet been able to create a strong shift in tourism. The majority of the people still live on agriculture and traditional crafts, and income from tourism is not yet stable.
In reality, tourism in Dong Binh remains fragmented and lacks connectivity, accommodation systems, regularly available food establishments, and complete tourism products. Furthermore, the linkages between local people, businesses, and the local community are limited.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Lien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Nam Phuoc commune, tourists from Hoi An to Tra Nhieu - a local tourism highlight - often stop by Dong Binh to admire the fields, sand dunes, rivers, and experience the rustic atmosphere of the traditional craft villages. However, tourism development in Dong Binh still faces many difficulties due to limited investment resources and a lack of diverse tourism products.
In the future, besides continuing to focus on developing Tra Nhieu into a highlight of local tourism, Nam Phuoc also aims to gradually connect other destinations such as Dong Binh village, the old brick kiln, and traditional craft villages, hoping to add more color to the journey of exploring the riverside countryside.
"We aspire to develop tourism in a sustainable manner, taking sure steps, both exploiting existing potential and preserving the cultural values and landscapes that are precious assets of the locality," Ms. Lien shared.
