Maximum response to parents' needs

After 2 years of Ho Chi Minh City implementing online primary school enrollment and applying GIS maps in assigning students to grades 1 and 6, in the 2025-2026 school year, the Department of Education and Training has made adjustments to best meet the needs and better suit the conditions of parents.

CAN REGISTER FOR SCHOOLS NEAR PARENTS' WORKPLACE

In the past two school years, Ho Chi Minh City has implemented the admission process for primary schools in two phases, in which phase 1 prioritizes students who are actually residing in the area; phase 2 is based on units that have not recruited enough students compared to the assigned quota, the primary school admission steering committee decides to open this enrollment phase.

Parents submit their children's first grade admission application after registering on the admission portal.

However, according to Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, the actual implementation shows that after the first phase, the second phase is considered after the division of areas of residence, leading to parents being worried that their children will not have a place to study, so they register immediately for the first phase, which may not be suitable for their family and work conditions and circumstances.

Therefore, this year the admission process will be carried out in one round and parents can register their children for school with one of three criteria: Current residence, where the student completed preschool (for grade 1 admission) or completed primary school (for grade 6 admission) or the workplace of the student's parents. The decision to select and allocate students to specific schools is under the authority of the Thu Duc City Admissions Steering Committee and districts. Students are given the opportunity to study in the area, the allocation to which school will be based on the actual conditions of the locality.

Parents and students are required to register on the Admissions Portal (tuyensinhdaucap.hcm.edu.vn) within the time specified by the Department of Education and Training.

Based on student data on the system, the admissions committee will conduct zoning using GIS maps. In which, considering subject 1, priority is given to students whose "current residence" is in the area.

Then consider subject 2, which is students who wish to study in an area that is not their actual residence. Priority can be given to specific cases of each area such as: Father or mother working in industrial zones, agencies located in the area, students who have completed preschool or primary school in the area, students with "current residence" according to VNeID in the border areas between districts and Thu Duc City, students who have transferred from another province and other special subjects of each locality. The remaining cases that are not subject to priority admission will be considered last, based on the remaining quota of the schools and the decision of the admission steering committee.

The head of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training said that this adjustment demonstrates flexibility, closely follows the implementation reality, and meets the maximum needs and wishes of parents. At the same time, this is aimed at creating convenience for parents in picking up and dropping off students and creating a source of students for localities with low numbers of students of admission age...

In the 2025-2026 school year, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will adjust the admission process at the beginning of the school year to best meet the needs and better suit the conditions of parents.

In which cases are students tested for their ability to enter grade 6?

Admission to grade 6 at Tran Dai Nghia Secondary and High School and some local secondary schools can be conducted based on a combination of two criteria including training and learning results in primary school years and the results of capacity assessment surveys. In particular, local secondary schools must simultaneously meet two requirements: Having a number of registered candidates exceeding the enrollment quota in recent years and being proposed by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and districts.

The remaining secondary schools conduct admission based on the results of training and learning at the primary level and use data from GIS maps to serve the work of allocating students, in which the admission areas of the schools are decided by the People's Committee of Thu Duc City and districts according to the actual situation in the locality.

Grade 10 exam with enhanced application

Regarding 10th grade admission, Mr. Nguyen Bao Quoc, Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, said that the 10th grade entrance exam in Ho Chi Minh City this year will remain stable as in previous years. Students will register their 10th grade wishes at public high schools around mid-April online at ts10.hcm.edu.vn.

Mr. Quoc said that the 10th grade entrance exam will be oriented towards applying more to solving practical problems towards developing students' capacity. Accordingly, the ratio of knowledge level distribution in the exam in all 3 entrance exam subjects according to the 2018 General Education Program will also be adjusted, reducing the level of recognition and understanding, increasing the rate of application (60% recognition and understanding and 40% application). This adjustment is to assess students' ability to apply in practice according to the orientation of the 2018 General Education Program.
