
The new integrated method is designed to combine three groups of criteria: high school graduation exam results, competency assessment exam results, and high school academic performance. The weighting of each criterion is determined based on actual data from the three most recent years to ensure a balance between input and training quality. Bonus points will be awarded to students with outstanding achievements at specialized and gifted schools, with strict regulations to ensure fairness among different groups of candidates.
Member units retain autonomy in implementation details but must adhere to the overall framework and ensure transparency and openness throughout the entire process.
In 2025, member units of the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City will mainly implement three admission methods: direct admission and priority admission, admission based on the results of the Competency Assessment Exam, and admission based on high school graduation exam scores. The University of Technology, in particular, has been implementing a combined admission method since 2022.
In 2025, the entire university system is expected to enroll over 24,500 students; of which, the method of admission based on competency assessment exam results will continue to play a core role, accounting for 56.32% and exceeding the initial expectations. The method of admission based on high school graduation exam scores will decrease as planned but will still maintain an important role in the overall admission structure.
According to the Vietnam National University Ho Chi Minh City, the 2025 admissions process reflects the significant efforts of its member universities in standardizing procedures and applying conversion tables for scores between different admission methods and combinations. However, the system still faces challenges regarding the diverse number of admission methods, inconsistent conversions, and complex priority admission application procedures. This is also an important basis for the university to strongly develop its improvement plan for 2026.
