The end for Karius?

Goalkeeper Loris Karius is at risk of having to leave Schalke at the end of this season after only 6 months of joining.

Karius has not been able to revive his career.

On April 1, Karius had to leave the field early due to injury in Schalke's 3-3 draw with Greuther Furth in the German Second Division. The former Liverpool goalkeeper was confirmed to be out for the rest of the season.

Schalke sporting director Youri Mulder said: "We will support Loris during his recovery. This injury has come at an unfortunate time, but Loris' health is the most important thing."

Karius' contract with Schalke expires at the end of this season, and there has been no move to extend it. It would not be surprising if the former Liverpool goalkeeper leaves Schalke to find a new destination next summer.

Karius only joined Schalke in January after six months out of work. In an interview in December 2024, the former Liverpool goalkeeper said he turned down a contract with a Saudi Arabian club last summer, while talks with an Italian club also failed to reach an agreement.

Karius has not shown much at Schalke.

Currently, Karius spends time with his family and tries his hand at DJing. He is excited about this new hobby during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Karius' wife Diletta Leotta hopes her husband will move to Serie A. She said: "I would be very happy if he could play in Italy and be closer to his family. When he played for Newcastle, life was very inconvenient because there were no direct flights."

Karius' career went downhill after his mistake in the 2017/18 Champions League final while playing for Liverpool.

He married famous sports anchor Leotta in June 2024 on the volcanic island of Vulcano, Italy, with about 160 guests in attendance.
