On April 1st, Karius had to leave the field early due to injury during Schalke's 3-3 draw against Greuther Furth in the German Second Division. The former Liverpool goalkeeper has been confirmed to be out for the rest of the season.
Schalke's sporting director, Youri Mulder, said: "We will support Loris in his recovery. This injury comes at an inopportune time, but Loris's health is the most important thing."
Karius's contract with Schalke expires at the end of this season, and there have been no moves to extend it. It would not be surprising if the former Liverpool goalkeeper leaves Schalke to find a new club next summer.
Karius only joined Schalke in January after six months out of work. In an interview in December 2024, the former Liverpool goalkeeper said he had turned down a contract with a Saudi Arabian team last summer, while talks with an Italian team also failed to materialize.

Currently, Karius is spending time with his family and trying his hand at DJing. He seems to be enjoying this new hobby, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Diletta Leotta, Karius's wife, hopes her husband will play in Serie A. She said: "I would be very happy if he could play in Italy and be closer to his family. When he played for Newcastle, life was very inconvenient because there were no direct flights."
Karius's career took a downturn after his mistake in the 2017/18 Champions League final while playing for Liverpool.
He married famous sports presenter Leotta in June 2024 on the volcanic island of Vulcano, Italy, with approximately 160 guests in attendance.
