Finding childcare during the summer is a real headache.

Báo Thanh niênBáo Thanh niên05/06/2023

Relying on grandparents to look after children during the summer break is a common practice for many families in Ho Chi Minh City. However, concerned that leaving children at home with grandparents for extended periods will lead to excessive TV and iPad use, hindering their development of essential skills, many parents are looking for affordable, reputable summer daycare programs where they can send their children from morning to afternoon.

Summer Day Camp at the Children's House

Several children's centers in districts and Thu Duc City (Ho Chi Minh City) are organizing day-care classes for talents and skills during the summer of 2023, meeting the high demand from many parents looking for places to send their children.

Speaking to a reporter from Thanh Nien newspaper, Mr. Phan Anh Viet, Director of the Thu Duc City Children's House, said that this year they are organizing a summer day camp for talented children studying at primary and secondary schools and living in Thu Duc City. The summer day camp will run from June 5th to July 29th, and will be held at the main headquarters at 281 Vo Van Ngan Street, Linh Chieu Ward, and at the Thu Duc City Children's House Branch 1 at 200 Nguyen Duy Trinh Street, Binh Trung Tay Ward.

At the District 4 Children's House, there is a half-day talent and life skills class for students aged 7-13, running from morning to afternoon. Course 1 runs from June 5th to 15th. In this class, students participate in various activities such as talent and life skills lessons in the morning. At lunchtime, children have lunch and rest, and in the afternoon they continue to participate in workshops, experiential playgrounds, afternoon snacks, and parents pick them up...

In Tan Phu District, Ms. Pham Thi Thuy An, Deputy Director of the Tan Phu District Children's House (213 Le Trong Tan Street, Son Ky Ward), stated that the demand for daycare at children's houses increases significantly during the summer. However, the Tan Phu District Children's House emphasizes that organizing daycare summer programs must be done seriously, systematically, safely, and in compliance with all current regulations. Therefore, they are carefully studying plans based on demand. Only if all requirements are met will they proceed with organizing daycare summer programs in July 2023.

Many preschools care for children from 15.6 years old.

Typically, independent, private preschools in Ho Chi Minh City operate throughout the summer. According to a survey by Thanh Nien newspaper, public preschools in Thu Duc City and other districts are currently surveying and recording the demand for childcare from parents and the voluntary registration of teachers and staff to participate in summer programs. The manager of a preschool in Ward 14, Phu Nhuan District, stated that a large number of children have registered for summer programs, with currently nine groups across three age groups (nursery, kindergarten, and preschool).

Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training issued Document No. 2673 guiding the Thu Duc District Department of Education and Training and 21 districts and affiliated preschools on organizing summer activities in 2023. "Depending on actual conditions; the needs of parents and caregivers for childcare; and the voluntary participation of teachers, preschools can organize summer activities from June 15, 2023 to August 15, 2023," the Department of Education and Training stated.

WHAT SHOULD YOU CONSIDER WHEN CHOOSING A SUMMER DAYCARE CLASS FOR YOUR CHILD?

According to Mr. Le Van Ket, manager of the Viet Dang Quang Life Skills Center in District 5, the first step is to choose reputable and trustworthy educational institutions and organizations that provide legally compliant summer day camp programs.

Next, parents need to find out if the summer day camp program is suitable for their child's age, needs, interests, and abilities. A crucial point is whether the center has a food safety and hygiene certificate, as children will be eating at the center from morning to afternoon. "Once the above requirements are met, parents can consider additional criteria when choosing a summer day camp. For example, is the distance from home to the camp convenient? Are the drop-off and pick-up times suitable for parents' work schedules? Is the price affordable for the family?" Mr. Ket explained.
