On the afternoon of June 12, Comrade Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, received comrade Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, member of the Party Central Committee, First Secretary of the City Party Committee of Havana, Cuba.
At the meeting, Comrade Nguyen Van Should highly appreciated the visit of Comrade Luis Antonio Torres Iribar at a very meaningful time when Cuba was preparing to celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Moncada Victory (July 26, 7) and the two countries would celebrate the 1953th anniversary of the visit of leader Fidel Castro to the liberated area of South Vietnam in Quang Tri (September 50).

The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee was pleased to see that the special friendship between Vietnam and Cuba is constantly being cultivated and consolidated. The Vietnamese people never forget the affection that the Cuban people have for Vietnam; always standing shoulder to shoulder, supporting Vietnam with the spirit of "For Vietnam, Cuba is ready to donate its blood" as President Fidel said.
In recent years, the two countries have always maintained high-level visits to each other to strengthen and tighten ties. Meanwhile, with its role as the economic, cultural and educational center of the country, with its potential and advantages, Ho Chi Minh City is always ready to play a pivotal role in promoting economic cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba; ready to coordinate, share experiences, expand investment cooperation with Cuban localities, and encourage organizations, businesses and people of Ho Chi Minh City to strengthen friendly exchanges and cooperation with Cuba.
Appreciating the development policies of the Cuban Party and Government as well as empathizing with the challenges that Cuba is facing, Comrade Nguyen Van Ne believes that the aspiration for freedom, independence and self-reliance will turn into action, helping the Cuban Party and Government promote the spirit of solidarity and creativity to overcome difficulties. Ho Chi Minh City always wishes to share and cooperate with Cuba to implement plans and goals for both sides to achieve many successes.
The Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee said that the two sides need to promote their inherent advantages such as training high-quality medical human resources of Cuba and high-tech agriculture in Ho Chi Minh City ... as well as need to further promote connectivity in the tourism sector.
Comrade Nguyen Van Nen believes that with the background of special friendship and cooperation between Vietnam and Cuba in general, Ho Chi Minh City and Cuban localities in particular will surely achieve more successes in the future.
Comrade Luis Antonio Torres Iribar affirmed that Cuba and Vietnam always have sincere and good feelings for each other. Recalling the immortal words of leader Fidel Castro "For Vietnam, Cuba is ready to give its own blood", Comrade Luis Antonio Torres Iribar emphasized that this spirit continues to be transmitted to the generation of Cuban leaders and people today.
With the special friendship built by two leaders Fidel Castro and Ho Chi Minh, the First Secretary of the Havana City Party Committee wishes to further promote cooperation in many fields between the two countries and Cuban localities, including Havana, and Ho Chi Minh City.
Emphasizing that Vietnam is Cuba's second largest trading partner, Asia's largest investor in Cuba and the only partner authorized to develop industrial infrastructure in the Mariel Special Economic Zone, the First Secretary of the City Party Committee of Havana affirmed that Cuba prioritizes cooperation with Vietnam in all fields, including food production.
Cuba is looking forward to more businesses from Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City to invest in the fields Cuba has needs and Vietnam has strengths in, such as agricultural production, food, aquaculture, wholesale and retail, etc. Education, healthcare, and tourism are also areas where the two sides have great potential for cooperation.
According to Comrade Luis Antonio Torres Iribar, Cuba is willing to share its experience in health development with Vietnam. On this occasion, Comrade First Secretary of the La Habana City Party Committee also thanked the authorities and people of Ho Chi Minh City for helping Cuba both materially and spiritually during Cuba's difficulties, and affirmed that strengthening the special relationship between Cuba and Vietnam is always Cuba's top priority.
